The much-hyped Yankees-Dodgers series is live. Apart from its sporting spectacles, this series is also a magnet for celebrities and Tinseltown stars. Last year’s World Series game between these titans saw an A-list parade of celebrities lighting up the stands. This included Hollywood heavyweights to chart-topping musicians. Well, this year, though, the glitter seems to be steadily arriving.

But hey, we already spotted Hollywood comic icon, Adam Sandler, at the stands!

While it is no surprise to see Sandler at the stand, his jersey caught the attention. In the Yankees-Dodgers series, you would expect a fan to either don a Dodgers or Yankees jersey. But Sandler was spotted donning a NY Knicks jersey. Yes, an NFL jersey in this game. So, which team do you think he is supporting?

For the unversed, Sandler is a well-known Knicks fan who also enjoys playing a bit of basketball himself. He’s been spotted courtside at Madison Square Garden and has spoken about his Knicks fandom in various interviews. But when it comes to baseball, Sandler backs the Yankees. Fitting, given that he’s a Brooklyn native and has long supported New York teams.

Well, this isn’t the first time he’s shown up to cheer on the Yankees. He previously attended a game against the Blue Jays in 2019, among other appearances. Remember his message to Aaron Judge in 2022 for becoming the sixth player in MLB history to hit 60 or more homers in a season? “We love you, pal. You’re incredible. We are all having the best time watching you. Thank you.”

So, that’s Adam Sandler for the Yankees. For him, it’s the New York teams that should be on the winning side. Donning a Knicks jersey in a Yankees game thus makes sense for him.

Sandler is not the first celebrity who donned a Knicks jersey in a Yankees game. Previously, Academy Award-winning director Spike Lee brought the signature orange-and-blue flair to Yankee Stadium. On several occasions, he’s been seen in Knicks gear, from jerseys to hats, while catching Yankees games. Hence, it is nothing new to show support for the Yankees in a Knicks jersey.

While the game went against the Yankees by an 8-5 record, they are ahead of the Dodgers in terms of celebrity fan count. Until now, it is 1-0 in favour of the Bronx. Hopefully, we will get to know more attendees in the next two games.

However, what about the Yankees’ pitching that again failed a big time?

The Yankees’ pitching lineup is questionable

If this game against the Dodgers is considered, there are several questions arising for the Yankees.

In terms of offense, the team is rewriting the records. The Yankees continued their power surge this season, marking the third time this season they’ve hit four or more home runs within the first three innings. That’s the most in a single season in franchise history. But when it comes to their pitching, vulnerabilities are left exposed.

The first name here is Max Fried, who endured his worst outing of the year tonight. He started with three consecutive scoreless innings, but things unraveled in the sixth. It began with Shohei Ohtani’s second home run of the game. Fried then surrendered three straight hits, including an RBI double by Freddie Freeman, as the momentum firmly shifted. He started with a 1.29 ERA that climbed up to 1.92 now.

On the other hand, the Yankees’ bullpen couldn’t stop the bleeding either. They gave up six runs over two innings, turning what was once a commanding lead into a losing cause.

Imagine a team with #1 rank in scoring home runs (88), but ranked #6 in terms of ERA (3.25). The Yankees are that team, and this streak difference between their pitching and batting is blowing up a few close games. The series against the Dodgers is on, and hopefully, the lineup will be back with a bang in the next two games.
