I’ve said it before that if the Yankees were the last team to give me a contract, I’d retire. The controversy around Hunter Dobbins’ comments barely faded, and we have another thing to talk about. While the bashes were ongoing, on Saturday, Dobbins decided to respond with his pitching against the Yankees.

Hunter Dobbins pitched six shutout innings, allowing only two hits and striking out five, leading the Red Sox to a 4-3 win. And the game exposed another glaring issue with the Yankees’ offense. Very likely, the Bleacher Creatures aren’t happy.

Giving the spotlight to Dobbins, MLB insider Bryan Hoch posted on X, Hunter Dobbins is through 5 scoreless IP vs. the Yankees, just two hits. Yanks 5-for-49 in the series with one extra-base hit (Judge’s 9th inning HR last night).Clearly, the Bronx’s offense production hasn’t been that great, as they could hit only twice against Hunter Dobbins.

Probably, it’ll be fair enough to say that the Boston Red Sox have an upper hand over the Yankees at the moment. They had three consecutive series wins and won four out of five games against the Bronx Bombers. And now, they are back again with a .500 PCT and a 36-36 record. Although it doesn’t guarantee a place in the playoffs, it’s definitely a significant move towards contention.

Meanwhile, the Yankees’ offense continues to disappoint. While Aaron Judge excelled at the plate with his raw hitting skills and calculated judgment, others faltered. The lazy efforts were visible.

The Yankees had a chance to make a comeback in the seventh inning. Jasson Dominguez, thinking that Trent Grisham had struck out, made a lazy attempt while running. And Carlos Narvaez didn’t let go of that opportunity to seal the game, as he threw the ball to second base. And that was it for Dominguez.

The Yankees should now aim to put up a fierce fight against the Red Sox in light of their growing offensive issues. It’s high time for the team to identify that none of the batters are living up to the expectations, other than Aaron Judge, who seems to be shouldering the whole lineup.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Hunter Dobbins the new Yankees' kryptonite, or was it just a bad day for the Bronx?

Have an interesting take?

The Yankees are collapsing. And fans couldn’t hold back on lambasting the Bronx for their lazy effort.

Yankees’ collapse and poor offense spark outrage among fans

The New York Yankees are currently dominating the season with a 42-27 record, standing atop the AL East. But ever since the Red Sox won two out of the three games in the last series and now, another two in the ongoing weekend series, their offense is under the radar. Fans are in shock.

The disappointment is evident. Now show the fact we have 2 runs in our last 21+ innings.” This comment highlighted a glaring issue. The NYY’s offense was held back by Hunter Dobbins, who didn’t allow them to score in the six innings he pitched. This time, they could only score 3 runs in the whole game. Definitely, that’s devastating for fans, and hence, the sarcastic jab makes complete sense. The Yankees managed to score two runs off Luis Guerrero in the seventh, and Jasson Dominguez went for a home run, but it wasn’t enough. Dominguez even reflected on his base-running error. “I have nothing to say. No excuses. I made a mistake.” Well, the batters in pinstripes are struggling. Be it their DH, Ben Rice, with a .226 average, or Austin Wells, with a .224 average.

Echoing a similar sentiment, another comment pointed out Aaron Judge’s struggles in the last few at-bats. Judge also has 6 strikeouts in his last 7 at-bats, I believe.” The stats are clear proof that Judge is struggling to score runs. In his last seven outings, he was struck out six times. Red Sox pitcher Garrett Crochet struck out Judge six consecutive times in the two starts he made. When Judge is the only hope, such struggles surely matter a lot…

Another user teased the Yankees. I think it’s time for a downfall of the team.” But being a champion team, the Yankees know how to make a comeback. However, it cannot be denied that the Yankees lost the series against the Red Sox last weekend, too. In fact, back in May, they lost the weekend series against the Tampa Bay Rays. So, going on with back-to-back losses in this series is definitely a point of concern!

This is the offense I’m scared of when playoffs roll around. Nonexistent. The Yankees have a history of entering into poor performance as the playoffs approach. Saturday’s game made it even more worrisome. In the top of the sixth, Ben Rice grounded out to the second, followed by Judge getting struck out swinging. Next, Bellinger, too, grounded out to the second. Volpe lined out to shortstop while DJ LeMahieu struck out swinging in the top of the seventh inning. Surely, relying too much on the bats to ignore the bullpen performances is not an ideal solution. And they would definitely need someone to give enough support to Aaron Judge at the plate. Otherwise, it might be too late!

Another comment from a fan offered criticism to both Hunter Dobbins and the Pinstripes. Making a trash pitcher look like Cy Young yet again.” In the 2025 season, Dobbins went 4-1 with a 3.74 ERA, 55.0 IP, 42 strikeouts, and a 1.19 WHIP. And when a team topping the AL East performs with such a casual approach, it will definitely frustrate fans.

But despite the noise, it is undeniable that Dobbins brought down the Bronx ship, almost single-handedly. Now, he might be breathing fire through his pitches once more. We hope the Yankees learn from the mistakes this time and step up with their best game.
