Now that’s great news coming from the center, isn’t it? The Kansas City Royals have finally announced their lineup and fans are going crazy. However, amid the news, what stole the spotlight was American professional football quarterback Patrick Mahomes jumping with excitement after hearing this news.
The Kansas City Chiefs‘ star, who is an avid fan of baseball and part-owner of the Kansas City Royals, has gone gaga over the recent move made by the team. The Kansas City Royals have finally promoted their top prospect, Jac Caglianone, which came as a surprise for many, albeit for some good reasons. Caglianone has already posted 15 home runs this season, batting at an average of .322 in the minor league and will debut soon, which can further bolster their roster.
Now, in a recent post by Jeff Passan, which tells about calling the top prospect, Patrick Mahomes shared a GIF from “The Office” that said, “Oh my God! Okay, it’s happening.” It is surely going to bring smiles to the faces of many. And Mahomes’ reaction after the Royals’ announcement is indeed worthy of praise, given that he has been an avid supporter of the Kansas City Royals for quite a long time.

However, the Royals are currently standing fourth in the American League Central with a 31-29 record. But now with the news of Caglianone making his way into the lineup, Mahomes is happy. Jac Caglianone was the number six pick in the MLB draft in 2024. The most important highlight was his two-way play, which allowed him to play first base as well as an outfielder. But if you think that’s enough of his potential, you are probably wrong.
While playing in the minor league with the Double-A Northwest Arkansas, Caglianone managed to hit nine homers with 43 RBIs, that too at an average of .322 in just 38 games. Moreover, his impressive strike rate of 22% and 11% walk rate further promoted him to Triple-A Omaha, where he again managed to post six home runs and 13 RBIs at a .326 average.
So, now that he is being called to the majors, just like the Royals’ fans, Patrick Mahomes seems to be pretty excited, too. And hopefully, he will debut on June 3, when the Royals will be playing the St. Louis Cardinals.
What’s your perspective on:
Will Jac Caglianone's debut be the turning point the Royals need to climb the standings?

How is Patrick Mahomes connected to baseball?
Well, despite being a professional football quarterback, Patrick Mahomes has a surprising connection to baseball. Can you guess why? Well, his father, Patrick Mahomes Sr., used to play as a pitcher from 1992 to 2003. In his career regular season, Patrick Mahomes went 42-39 with a 5.47 ERA, 308 G, and 709.0 IP, along with 452 strikeouts with a 1.59 WHIP. With his father’s support, Mahomes Jr. managed to boast of a strong arm. Even after getting an offer to play baseball, he finally chose football and gradually rose to stardom.
In a short span, he even broke several records and was one of the best players to watch in the NFL. However, despite making it big in football, his love for baseball hasn’t died. He was one of the top prospects in the 2014 MLB draft. He even got selected by the Detroit Tigers but eventually never signed the contract.
