After suffering injuries to several key players, the New York Mets finally have some good news. The Mets ace Jacob deGrom has provided a positive update regarding his shoulder injury. Notably, deGrom has not played a single game this season.

Right before the start of the 2022 season, the two-time Cy Young Award winner suffered a major injury in his right shoulder during spring training. Given his experience and form, it was a major setback for the Buck Showalter-led team. But now, it seems like deGrom has recovered from the injury, and will make his comeback to the mound very soon.

Despite missing their key players in crucial league games, the Mets have been rock solid this season. Not only deGrom but veteran pitcher Max Scherzer also suffered a severe injury to his left side lately. So this news of deGrom’s recovery is something that the Mets will be happy about.

When will Jacob deGrom be back on the mound?

It has been over eight weeks since Jacob deGrom injured his shoulder. But recently, the Mets ace said that he feels completely normal. However, he is in no hurry to pitch, given the severity of the injury.

“I feel completely normal,” deGrom said. “So I think that’s where it’s going to be like, do we push it? Do we not? That will be the discussion over the next few days. And when we get on the mound, what is the safest way to go about this?”

deGrom also expressed his wish to contribute and win games for the Mets. “The team’s been playing really good, and you want to be there through the end of the year. It’s trying to walk that fine line of being safe and not trying to do it too quick,” said deGrom.

The Mets ace also shared his recent medical report. Per deGrom, his bone has completely recovered.

“Normally, bone heals stronger. So the last report was good, and they said it was completely healed. Now, it’s just making sure it handles the throwing and nothing pops up. But the way it’s gone so far, I feel great,” added the Mets ace.

If things go right for deGrom, he will be pitching for the Mets sooner than later. But again, even though his reports are positive, he is yet to start his practice. Only time will tell how useful he will be for his team.
