Derek Jeter played through 20 glorious years on the baseball diamond. During that time, he had numerous romantic affairs. But none of those relationships developed into anything serious. In a recent interview, Jeter explained why he never thought about having kids during his playing tenure.

The 14-time All-Star Derek Jeter played his entire MLB career as the New York Yankees shortstop from 1995 to 2014. Jeter won five World Series trophies within his time span as an active player. His honorable legacy is a result of his tremendous dedication to the sport. So much so that Jeter’s professional focus caused a few of his relationship breakups.

Thus, Jeter got married to supermodel Hannah Davis post-retirement in 2016. The couple had their first child in 2017. Jeter recently graced famous radio personality Angie Martinez’s podcast as the special guest. He revealed the reasons behind having kids after bidding farewell to his playing career.

Derek Jeter discussed many topics on his recent visit to Angie Martinez’s podcast. One of those topics happened to be his post-retirement fatherhood. Jeter properly detailed why he chose to enter the stage of parenthood only after retiring from baseball. He also mentioned his own parents’ significant role in his life.

Speaking to Angie, Jeter said, “I have always been jealous of players that have had kids during their career. Kids are in the clubhouse, on the field. I mean, my girls tonight, first time are gonna be on the field in the Yankee stadium. So I am jealous of that, but I just couldn’t have.”

Jeter added saying, “Yeah, you just wanna be present. I wanna be present. Which is another reason, it would not have been fair. I don’t consider it to have been fair. Because my parents were always present. Until I got into high school and I started really playing summer ball.”

Jeter in appreciation of his parents’ vital presence 

Jeter has always been high on praise for his parents’ contribution towards his progress. Jeter also said, “So I always had one of my parents present at everything we did. They’d split up, go to my sister’s softball game. One would go to my sister’s game, one would come to my little league game. Whether it was school plays or school events. One of my parents was always there, if not both.”
