If the word ‘great’ is beside Alex Rodriguez’s name, then the word ‘controversy’ is also added to his name. His name was on the list of people who took steroids and performance-enhancing drugs.
Ten days after the report in Sports Illustrated came in 2009, Rodriguez finally took to the media to answer their questions about his steroid usage, when did he use it, how did he use it, and more.

Alex Rodriguez answered each and every question asked by the media
Every question that the media asked Alex, he answered. The three-time AL MVP player, Alex ‘A-Rod’ Rodriguez, could not make it into the Hall of Fame because of his PEDs usage.
Alex has said that one of the reasons for him to use the performance-enhancing drugs was the pressure of being the highest-paid player while playing for the Texas Rangers. When he came to New York in 2004, he discontinued the use of PEDs.

On being asked why he discontinued, he said, “I think I was curious. I was young. I was 24-25 years old… I entered the game when I was 18, and for a lot of people, if I had a son, I would definitely recommend going to college and having an opportunity to grow up. And I didn’t.”

Replying to if he ever took human growth hormones or amphetamines, he said, “No on the human growth hormones, what I used to take a lot in especially in the Seattle days was something called ‘Whitfield’. I knew we weren’t taking tic tac’s. I knew that it was potentially could be something that perhaps was wrong.”

He knew that it could be wrong, but at the time of using them, he didn’t think much about the consequences. Which he eventually had to face.
He didn’t know they were steroids
A-Rod has said that he was pretty young when he started playing professionally. He did not have a chance to grow up properly. And he didn’t get to go to college.

He also got asked when he took the performance-enhancing drugs, whether they were in pill form or he injected them. To this, he had a one-word reply, “Injected.”
Seemingly, he was curious about the steroids. He never thought of the benefits of using them. He said, “I didn’t think they were steroids. I mean that’s the game, part of being young and stupid.”

He also has said that he wishes he had gone to college. And that he had a chance to grow up at his own pace. Moreover, he mentioned that he was there to apologize. And that it was not up to him to say if he cheated or not.
