Derek Jeter started his family life in 2016. The New York Yankees legend got married to his longtime girlfriend Hannah Davis, who he had first met in 2012. They had their first child in 2017, a year after having been married. Jeter once revealed the reason for his late start to family life a few months after retiring from baseball.

The legendary shortstop holds his family very dear to his heart and puts them before anything else. Furthermore, there is a very practical reason that he decided to start his family later in life.

Derek Jeter wanted to start his family after retirement
During his MLB career, Derek Jeter was solely focused on winning World Series titles. He worked hard on improving his game and removed any deficiencies from it. The reason that Jeter did not want to start a family life during his career is that he had no time. He admitted that he was too selfish to juggle a family along with his baseball career. Jeter said all of this during an interview with Brandon Steiner of Steiner Sports.

According to US Magazine, Jeter said, “I just know that I personally couldn’t have done it while I was playing.” The Yankees’ legendary shortstop followed up by saying, “I was too selfish to be able to juggle a family and kids. But I look forward to it happening.” This was a truly honest answer about why he avoided starting a family during his career.

But since then, he has gotten married and now has three daughters with his wife, Hannah Jeter. The Yankees legend is enjoying being a girl dad and is passing his father’s lessons onto his children. Furthermore, Derek is avoiding taking any roles that would take up a lot of his schedule.

The Yankees legend has said that he will never be an MLB Manager
During an interview with extratv, Derek Jeter said that he would never take up the MLB management role. While explaining why, he covered two main reasons. Firstly, the MLB schedule is too rough, and he does not want to go back to that. And secondly, he wants to be around for his three daughters as much as possible, like his parents were around for him.
