“I Want to be a Hall of Famer in Heaven..”: Tainted MLB Great Sammy Sosa Makes Painful Admission on a Void in His Decorated Career

The Hall of Fame is an honor that has been reserved for baseball’s most elite players over the decades. Only truly legendary baseball players make it to Cooperstown, the very best that fans have seen. Out of many MLB legends that have not made it to the Hall of Fame yet is Sammy Sosa. The superstar slugged his way to fame, smashing 609 home runs. Most recently, Sosa reflected on his chances of making the Hall of Fame.
The Chicago Cubs legend fell off the ballot last year after failing to receive the required 75% votes to qualify. Sosa has now revealed his opinion on making the Hall of Fame.

Under normal circumstances, Sammy Sosa would have been elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame on his first ballot. But the circumstances are far from normal for the Cubs legend. In 2009, The New York Times named Sosa as one of more than 100 MLB players who tested positive for Performance-enhancing drugs during 2003’s Spring Training. Most recently, the superstar slugger opened up on making the Hall. He seems resigned to the fact that he has a low chance of making it to Cooperstown. MLB insider Hector Gomez shared Sosa’s statement via Twitter.

According to a translated version of the Tweet, Sosa said, “I wish the best to those who have been exalted. I want to be a Hall of Famer in heaven, not on earth. With my peace I am happy; if it happens, fine, if not, I’m happy. My numbers can never be erased from the board. Nothing and no one can erase them.”

Most experts argue against steroid users being allowed into the Hall Of Fame, but one MLB pundit argued otherwise using a bizarre analogy. Despite that, it is unlikely that Sosa makes the Hall, even though he has a chance via The Contemporary Baseball Era Players Committee.

Sammy Sosa has achieved legendary feats and picked up numerous accolades during his career. In addition to winning one NL MVP award, he was an All-Star 7 times and won 6 Silver Slugger awards. Furthermore, he was regularly among the home run leaders, smashing 609 in his career. Sosa is considered one of the best players to not win a World Series.
