Derek Jeter has a long history of dating celebrity women, just as many legendary athletes do. However, most of those pairings were brief. Likewise, Jeter once dated the famous Mariah Carey. The two of them were together only for about a year.

Jeter and Carey met each other in 1997 and began dating. Notably, Carey was still married to music executive Tommy Mottola at that time. However, Carey was, reportedly, largely unhappy in her marriage and was looking for a way out. So Jeter, who was already highly fond of Carey, turned out to be the life-changing relationship in her life.

Long before Jeter turned into a baseball star, Carey was already a world-renowned musician. Jeter was a big fan of Carey and had the dream of marrying her one day.

Carey recalled in her memoir titled, ‘The Meaning of Mariah Carey,’ how Jeter had a grand plan. Jeter, who had a nickname for Carey’s then-husband, told Carey, “I was going to meet you, and I was going to steal you away from Tony Sony.”
