Ippei Mizuhara Scandal: Shohei Ohtani Credits His Wife Mamiko Tanaka For Standing By Him

Shohei Ohtani has seen himself get unwanted attention recently. From Ippei Mizuhara’s gambling issues to the first home-run controversy Ohtani’s name has become a constant part of headlines. This could’ve been a stressful time for someone who tries his hardest to stay away from the limelight. However, the Los Angeles Dodgers star has found an extremely strong support system that has helped him deal with his emotions – his wife Mamiko Tanaka.
Ever since Tanaka was revealed as Ohtani’s wife she has become a favorite topic of discussion for his fans. Tanaka’s single glimpse during Dodgers’ games goes viral. So do the pictures of her playing with baseball’s favorite doggo – Decoy. However, as Ohtani revealed Mamiko Tanaka’s presence has helped him deal with this unprecedented set of circumstances.
Ohtani spoke to the reporters before the Blue Crews series opener against the Minnesota Twins. As Kyodo News reported, Shotime talked about the Mizuhara controversy. While the superstar didn’t go into detail about it he did share that the unwanted spotlight could’ve affected him had it not been for his wife Mamiko.

“The basic rhythm of life hasn’t changed, but a lot has happened in the past few weeks, so it makes quite a difference having someone by your side,” Ohtani said. “There have been times I was really glad to have her (Mamiko Tanaka) there.” However, Ohtani also revealed how he dealt with the situation. The fact that his on-field form hasn’t dipped despite going through such turmoil is surprising. But the 2x MVP expressed that it’s quite normal for him.

How Shohei Ohtani maintained his focus on baseball amidst controversies
“When I play baseball, I don’t really think about it (controversies),” Ohtani said. “I think basically the skills I’ve acquired playing baseball don’t change, so I trust that first and foremost.” Later Ohtani shared that his job is to give his full on the field and that doesn’t change due to his personal life situations. In a way, Ohtani’s professionalism prevented him from taking his toes off the accelerator on the field.
The two-way phenom also talked about his Dodgers teammates and how their support has made things easier for him. “I’ve definitely had great support from the team, the coaches, and the front office. I’m really grateful,” the superstar said. So it seems the great support system that Ohtani has created is proving to be fruitful for him just when he needed them the most.
