The 2025 World Series is already a classic. After the Blue Jays and Dodgers just battled for an exhausting 18 innings in a Game 3 that ended with a Jays loss, Toronto hands the ball to Shane Bieber for a must-win Game 4. But as fans tune in, let’s get one thing out of the way first. Is Shane Bieber, the Blue Jays’ ace pitcher, related to Justin Bieber, the Canadian pop star?

While they share the same name, they are not related. Shane Bieber is the hard-throwing pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays from America, a former Cy Young Award winner and an All-Star Game MVP. The Jays made a huge bet on him this season when they brought him in July while he was still recovering from TJ.
And his famous namesake, Justin Bieber, is a completely different story. Justin is a Canadian icon from Ontario. So, the shared name is purely a wild coincidence. But the two are definitely aware of each other.

In 2019, Shane was playing for Cleveland, wearing a Players’ Weekend jersey that famously read “NOT JUSTIN” on the back. The joke didn’t stop there.
Baseball card company Topps then accidentally printed a card that actually called him “Justin.” The real Justin Bieber saw the jersey and the card error and even got his own custom baseball jersey. It read “NOT SHANE BIEBER” on the back.
And now the story has just reached its peak.

What is Shane Bieber’s Family Background and Roots?
Shane Robert Bieber is an American ace who was born in Orange, California, on May 31, 1995, and grew up in Laguna Hills. His parents are Chris and Kristine Bieber. Shane was not a flashy, high-profile recruit out of high school and had to walk on to the baseball team at UC Santa Barbara, and didn’t even have a scholarship for his first year.
But his family was the biggest support for his journey from high school pitcher to Cleveland fourth-round draftee in 2016.

But the Bieber mystery is officially solved now. Shane and Justin are not related. They are just two top-of-the-world names who happen to share a name. As of now, the focus will be purely on the pitcher Bieber, who is slated to start Game 4 of the World Series against the Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani after an exhausting Game 3 that extended up to 18 innings.
