New York Mets have been the surprise package of the ongoing MLB season. With Buck Showalter as their leader and Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer in their rotation, the New York Mets have almost everything sorted for their playoffs.

Even though the Mets faced a series sweep against the New York Yankees recently, the NL side has a strong chance to make it to the World Series this year. It is not that they have the best squad in MLB, but they have one of the most balanced sides this season.

Even when the Mets ace Jacob deGrom was not available for the entire first half of the season, the Buck Showalter-led team was ruthless in the National League. With a fully fit deGrom and Scherzer, the Mets have a strong chance to make it to the World Series 2022. And Stephen A. Smith of ESPN believes the same.

Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer to lead the Mets to World Series?

It is no secret that Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer are two of the best pitchers in the game. The duo of Scherzer (3) and deGrom (2) is so good that they share five Cy Young Awards between them. So, facing them in the playoffs will be the most difficult thing for any team.

Talking about the same Stephen A. Smith weighed his opinion on why the Mets have the best chance to play in the World Series. He was full of praise for deGrom’s outstanding outings this season.

“I still think it’s the New York Mets. Because deGrom did not pitch last night. He is starting off the Rockies series, we will see what happens with that… I’ll tell you this, when the ball comes out of his hand, it’s something spectacular…Now, he has only pitched about 23 innings this year, struck out 37; he is something special,” Smith said.

The ESPN commentator also said that the Dodgers are the only team that can stop the Mets from playing in the World Series this year.

“The combination of him and Scherzer in a rotation for the playoffs, it ain’t unbeatable but it’s pretty damn close… The Mets, I look at the Dodgers being in their way, potentially the Braves… It’s about the Dodgers standing in their way more so than anything else,” Smith added.
