“It Was Surreal…”- When Controversial Baseball Legend Alex Rodriguez Received Invitation From MLB Office to Promote Baseball Abroad

Alex ‘A-Rod’ Rodriguez is among the most significant contributors to the sport of baseball. He is an iconic player due to his entertaining value. His towering achievements made him a larger-than-life personality. But just as well, ‘A-Rod’ had a scandalous career. 

Alex ‘A-Rod’ Rodriguez made his MLB debut for the Seattle Mariners and later also played for the Texas Rangers. While already successful, Rodriguez experienced a meteoric rise to stardom only after joining the New York Yankees. ‘A-Rod’ is remarkably a 14-time All-Star member. He also won his solitary World Series championship while being in the Yankees frame.

Every legendary person goes through highs and lows in his or her life. Some fall into disrepute and tarnish their legacies. Something similar happened with ‘A-Rod’ too. He turned into a disgraced figure in baseball after getting busted for taking banned substances. 

Alex Rodriguez and the change in his relationship with MLB 

Alex ‘A-Rod’ Rodriguez got busted for PED intake in 2013. Consequently, the MLB administration immediately suspended him for the remaining season. The ban continued until the entire 2014 edition. Even the Yankees franchise lost trust in him.

But following up, ‘A-Rod’ took some action of his own. Furious at the suspension, ‘A-Rod’ accused the MLB administration of conspiring against him. He alleged the authorities of trying to ruin his career.  Therefore, he decided to challenge the penalty. 

‘A-Rod’ filed a lawsuit against the MLB administration to fight the strict punishment meted out to him. But his counterpunch had no effect. However, as 2015 set in and he made his comeback, everything gradually normalized. ‘A-Rod’ continued to smash home runs and win games for the Yankees.

‘A-Rod’ announced his retirement in 2016. Much to his surprise, the MLB office invited him in 2018. The reason was to represent MLB in England. ‘A-Rod’ got appointed as the MLB ambassador for the New York Yankees vs Boston Red Sox foreign games. The prime arch-rivals of baseball played in London in 2019. 

Rodriguez’s surprise reaction to the invitation 

Upon getting the call and the offer, an amused ‘A-Rod’ said, “It was surreal. Same building, same revolving doors, same security guards, but a completely different situation.” Rodriguez’s life has been dramatic through and through. That brings into account both his playing career and life beyond. He now lives life as a broadcaster, analyst, and entrepreneur.
