Playing terrible baseball for the last three weeks, the Yankees needed something magical to turn their fate around. It was not Aaron Judge or Juan Soto but their rookie Ben Rice who came to the rescue. Just two and a half weeks into his MLB season, Ben Rice is showing his true calibre. He smashed three home runs against the unstoppable Boston Red Sox, saving the sinking Bronx ship.

Eventually, the Yankees crushed the Red Sox 14-4, ending their four-game losing streak against their arch-rivals. The crowd, who felt disgraced since a few outings, erupted when their rookie gem unleashed his offensive power. Additionally, Ben Rice was even praised by the Cy Young Award winner Gerrit Cole. Applauding the rookie, Cole had some interesting things to say about the emerging Yankees talent.

Gerrit Cole’s Applauds Ben Rice Amid his heroics against the Boston Red Sox

As soon as Rice got the Yankees off with a lead-off homer against Boston’s starter Josh Winckowski, the crowd knew something magical was coming. Going all out to praise the young Yankees first baseman, Gerrit Cole said, “He’s [Ben Rice] is a pretty good player.” Indeed, Cole’s statement is a reflection of Rice’s accomplishment. Scoring three home runs, he becomes the first Yankees rookie to accomplish this feat.  Additionally, when asked about the team’s morale and Ben Rice’s match-winning impact, Gerrit further said, “Really, I think it’s a little bit greater than that. It’s a historical day, a magical day. And to be honest, I’m pretty thankful that I get to be on the lineup card because I know he’ll remember it forever.”  Being down and out against Boston for the last two games, a resurgent Yankees played on Saturday.

Especially when Rice came for the offense, he gave his team an early 1-0 lead. He hit a 390-foot homer, landing straight into the stands. Then came his next home run at a 406-foot shot in the fifth innings. Also, the Yankees grabbed three runs with the second homer, making them sit comfortably.

Finally, ending Boston’s winning chances, Rice again smashed a 406-foot homer in the seventh innings and sealed the game for the Bronx. Overall, Ben struck three hits in five at-bats, having one strikeout. Eventually, this has brought his season average to .294, along with an impressive OPS of .971. Perhaps, despite Ben Rice’s fiery performance against the Yankees, the lad has much more potential than he actually shows.

Ben Rice, a Rookie now, can be Yankee’s prime prospect going forward

Rice for the Yankees in 2024 has been nothing short of a masterpiece. Pulling a team that was already tanked in the pothole needed some heroics. Since his June 18 debut, the rookie has had a good time with the bat. Rice changed the Yankee’s fortune within a span of nearly a month. On June 18, the Yankees were sitting at 4-14 running down the road. However, Ben Rice’s performance with the bat has made the team stand 14-4 and in a stronger position at the AL East League standings.

Adding to Rice Records, he became the first Yankee Rookie since July 23, 1925, to score seven runs. Growing up as a Yankee fan in suburban Boston, he’s living his dream. The team had immense faith in him since he first batted in the minor league, and the Yankees drafted him. In terms of the date, he was drafted in the 12th round of the Major League Baseball draft in 2021.

Although the team has Gerrit Cole, Juan Soto, and Aaron Judge, the Yankees needed a rookie to support the big players. Ultimately, when the Yankees needed a hero on Saturday, Ben Rice fought back single-handedly. Also, Rice is just 25 years old, so he might have a decade left to showcase his talent. Altogether, with the swing, approach, and serenity Ben Rice brings, he might be a player the Yankees could bet on in times to come.
