Stars are called stars for a reason. St Louis Cardinals hitter Albert Pujols is one such example. His humbleness towards the fans last night showed how great of a player he is. Also, the home run that he hit last night against the Pittsburgh Pirates broke the record of Yankees icon Alex Rodriguez.

Most players would like to keep that home run ball in a trophy case, but The Machine is not like most players. Pujols let the couple who caught it, take his 697th home run ball with them. And also gave both of them his signed memorabilia.

Why did Albert Pujols let the couple have the ball?

Pittsburgh Pirates fans, Matt and Samantha Brown went to PNC Park last night to watch a game between the Pirates and the Cardinals. Therein, La Maquina wrote history when he sent the baseball out of the ballpark and into the stands. That marked the 697th home run of his career in the Major Leagues.

The couple caught that ball and was obviously very happy to do so. But when they went to give it back to Pujols, he refused and let them have it.

“It’s just a baseball. They deserve to have it. It went out of the ballpark,” Pujols said.

Moreover, he said“We play this game for the fans. So whether they want to give it back or they want to keep it, I don’t have any problem with that.”

How did Pujols’ gesture make the couple’s day better?

Yesterday was a pretty emotional day for Samantha, as last year, on the same day, Samantha’s father passed away.

On this, Pujols said, “I think it means for that girl more than me having it in my trophy case.”
