Schilling was first diagnosed with cancer and had to go through painful treatment. He subsequently recovered from the disease, but the troubles didn?t end there for the Red Sox legend.

Curt Schilling faced bankruptcy after recovering from cancer

Schilling was addicted to chewing tobacco for 30 years and it led to him getting cancer. At the time of the treatment, Schilling regretted the habit due to the painful treatment. Luckily, the former Red Sox ace was able to make a full recovery from cancer. But those were not the only problems that the legendary pitcher was facing. Schilling also faced bankruptcy due to the collapse of his gaming company 38 Studios.

But in an interview with ESPN’s Jackie MacMullan, the Red Sox legend said that the worst thing was explaining it to his family. Schilling said ?I brought this on myself. For the last two years, I’ve had to stand in front of my wife and kids and explain to them, ‘I lost $50 million and my company went bankrupt and it was all my fault.’ Then I had to stand in front of them and tell them, ‘I have cancer because I dipped.’ They are conversations I wouldn’t wish on anyone.”?

The ordeal has left Schilling with permanent scars, his tastebuds are decimated and so are his salivatory glands. But he is now working as an analyst for Blaze TV. The former Red Sox pitcher will always be remembered for his legendary performances on the mound.

In 2004, Curt Schilling severely injured his ankle during the 2004 postseason. But the Red Sox ace played through the injury and helped the AL side with crucial performances in both the ALCS and the World Series. In a couple of the games, he had blood leaked from his injury and soaked into his sock.
