Carlos Correa is one of the most accomplished shortstops in the MLB right now. The All-Star is a decent batter and one of the best defenders in his position. He was one of the best free agents available before signing a 12-year $315 million deal with the New York Mets. Most Met fans are happy with the acquisition and looking forward to seeing him play.

To highlight that, an Instagram account recently shared a video of an interview that Correa did many years ago. In the interview, the All-Star shortstop showed a lot of reasons why his big deal with the Mets makes sense.

Carlos Correa is a top-level talent and wants to improve

Taking to Instagram, the EL Show recently shared snippets of an interview that Correa did with baseball legend Alex Rodriguez in 2017. In the video, Correa talks about the challenges he faces and the things that he has to improve and generally shows a winning mindset.

In the video, Correa said “I’ve still gotta get better at my craft, I still think I can improve in so many things. But defense is something that I focused on this Spring Training in the offseason. Cause I know I can be a better defender than I was last year.”

This drive to improve and desire to be the best he can be is why Steve Cohen was so willing to spend big money on Correa. Furthermore, he has achieved so much at just 28 years old and is still in his prime. The All-Star has had a fantastic last couple of seasons and the Mets will want that to continue.

In 2021, Carlos Correa had one of the best seasons of his career in his last year with the Houston Astros. He batted well and took home the Platinum Glove for his fielding. He was also an All-Star that year. In 2022, Correa had a great season as well but did not take home any awards. The thing that he showcased the most was his leadership with the Minnesota Twins.
