Sometimes old habits can ignite fresh wounds to an individual. Jarren Duran is going through that exact feeling right now. Just a month ago, he was the hero of the hour. The All-Star MVP and the man who had defeated mental health issues. But now, the Boston Red Sox star is facing a 2-game ban for his homophobic comments. Just how fast do the circumstances change, right? But then, sometimes these changes can affect even the most basic of things.

For instance, Jarren Duran is famous for his “F*ck ‘Em” undershirt. The Boston Red Sox star has always defended wearing it, even when the league demanded him to stop doing that. Why? For Duran, the shirt represents his struggles with doubters and it gives him the strength to move on. But to wear that during his post-controversy apology conference? That is quite a tough situation to be in.

Boston Globe’s columnist Dan Shaughnessy pointed out this bizarre fact on his X account. Shaughnessy noted how after being suspended for 2 games, Jarren DUrran chose to wear his “F*ck ‘Em” shirt during the pre-game presser. Was it a message to the controversy that he is in or was it just a tone-deaf act? That isn’t clear but whatever it was, it ignited some highly mixed opinions among the fanbase.

As we know, Jarren Duran is facing a 2-game suspension after his offensive comments to a fan. The star had called the fan “F**got” after being frustrated by his constant heckling. However, Duran’s words didn’t get the desired result due to the t-shirt that he was wearing. More than that, the Boston Red Sox’s response has also faced criticism for trying to shield Duran from fans’ outrage.

Jarren Duran’s sincerity gets questioned after his shirt choice

The Athletic’s Steve Buckley had some scathing remarks for Duran. “At this critical juncture when Duran needed to show some actual contrition and deliver a message that he’s trying, really trying, to make things right, it was hard to get past the ‘(Expletive) ‘Em’,” Buckley said. In a way, that choice of clothing by Jarren Duran overshadowed his words and that is not a good thing. Especially, because the fans’ perspective of him deteriorated quite a bit after this incident.

Buckley also noted how the Boston Red Sox are shielding Duran from responsibilities. “The Red Sox should stop referring to Jarren Duran as ‘a kid,’” Buckley wrote. He noted how the manager Alex Cora had called Duran a kid at least seven times during his pregame interview on Monday. As a result, it is clear how the 28-year-old’s actions are also negatively affecting the standing of the Boston Red Sox. This is the same Red Sox that was becoming every neutral’s favorite due to their resurgent performances.

So did Jarren Duran make a mistake by wearing the controversial t-shirt? Many think he did. Whatever the case, Duran’s troubles continue to increase. Could he find a way to move past this controversy? What do you think? Share comments below.
