Despite Bryce Harper’s Whopping $330 Million Contract, Philadelphia Phillies’ Owner Makes an Honest Confession to Him in an Unearthed Video

Since joining the Philadelphia Phillies, Bryce Harper has remained a ray of hope for the team. This year, in particular, he has justified the Phillies’ high expectations of him. His performances have powered the Phillies into the World Series. Consequently, the Phillies owner is awestruck by Harper’s efforts. 

Bryce Harper made his MLB debut with the Washington Nationals in 2012 and made a significant impact straightaway. Playing as the right fielder, he won the National League’s Rookie of the Year Award on his debut. Displaying his tearaway hitting skills, he became the National League’s home run leader in 2015. The two-time All-Star Harper joined the Phillies in 2019 for a humongous amount.

Harper joined the Phillies by signing a $330 million contract for a 13-year term. Through his impressive performances and his charismatic influence on the team, he has proven worth every penny. However, Phillies owner John Middleton thinks a different way. As Middleton got noticed talking to Harper after a game, an MLB insider asked Middleton about the conversation. 

What did the Philadelphia Phillies owner say to Bryce Harper? 

Bryce Harper has had an injury-ridden season this year. But yet he left his mark and made his presence felt by hitting 18 home runs until now. The most valuable of those homers came in the fifth National League Championship game against the San Diego Padres. Harper’s two-run homer in the eighth inning helped the Phillies to oust the Padres and qualify for the World Series.

An overjoyed John Middleton talked to Harper post-game, sharing some laughs. Sports journalist John Clark shared the video on Twitter, quoting, “Un******believable.” Clark asked Middleton to decode what he must have said to Harper. 

As per Clark, Middleton reportedly told Harper, “I think I’ve underpaid you. I’m not sure you can underpay somebody when you give them $330 million, but I’m pretty sure I underpaid you.”
