Are the Los Angeles Dodgers cooling down on their pursuit of star outfielder Juan Soto? They have been active in building a championship-caliber roster over the past few seasons, securing long-term deals for Mookie Betts and Tyler Glasnow while also signing big names like Freddie Freeman, Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Blake Snell. Los Angeles has become a prime destination for free agents.

This year, the Dodgers have significantly spent on Blake Snell. The crew also has an ongoing interest in re-signing Teoscar Hernández. It appears the Dodgers are prioritizing other needs, particularly pitching. Their quest for pitching has yet to be fully addressed, combined with their other roster priorities. That suggests that Soto, who is expected to command a massive contract, might no longer be a top target for Los Angeles—this shift in focus could open the door for other teams to step in.

MLB Insider thinks the Dodgers don’t need Juan Soto

When it comes to the Los Angeles Dodgers, the one thing we know for sure is that you can never completely count them out when it comes to big-name signings. But according to MLB insider Bob Nightengale, Juan Soto’s future may not include the Dodger blue. Nightengale recently shared his take: “Realistically, I think there’s a better chance that you and I are playing right field next year for the Dodgers than Juan Soto,” adding, “They don’t need him.” Evidently, the Dodgers’ roster might already be stacked enough without the generational talent.

But Nightengale’s analysis certainly raises some eyebrows. After all, the Dodgers have been known to surprise folks with moves no one saw coming. While it seems they might not need to break the bank for a guy like Soto, no matter how good he is, still, is this the end of the story? If history’s any guide, don’t be shocked if the Dodgers throw a curveball and swoop in when it’s least expected—with the Dodgers, you can never really rule anything out.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are taking a calm, strategic approach this offseason.

The team looks to retain the key players from their recent World Series-winning team. With several of their stars seeing their market value rise after the Fall Classic, the Dodgers aren’t rushing into big decisions. Instead, the squad is methodically evaluating how to keep their championship core intact. LA is staying cool, confident, and focused on maintaining a competitive roster.

The Dodgers’ philosophy this offseason is clear: Offer players a fair, specific sum that reflects their market value and then, patiently wait for them to reassess their options—especially after testing the waters elsewhere. This approach seems to be at play with Dominican outfielder Teoscar Hernández, who, despite interest from Los Angeles, is reportedly drawn back to his former team, the Toronto Blue Jays.

After the Dodgers’ World Series victory over the New York Yankees, Hernández entered the free-agent market. He was extended a qualifying offer by Los Angeles, which he ultimately rejected in search of more lucrative opportunities. Despite this, it’s clear that Hernández has a strong desire to remain in Chavez Ravine—he has a deep bond formed not only with the team but also with the fanbase. So, the Dodgers could be confident that, after exploring other options, he will recognize the value of staying in LA, prepared to present him with an offer that he simply won’t be able to turn down.
