Why did the Yanks never retire A-Rod’s jersey?
A-Rod debuted with the Seattle Mariners in 1994. He arrived at the Yankee Stadium in 2004 as their newest third baseman. He was undoubtedly the greatest talent and most powerful hitter in the Yanks at that time. In 2005 and 2007, he won the American League’s Most Valuable Player award.
However, despite all his success, the Yanks never retired his jersey and didn’t add A-Rod to Monument Park. This was crediting the appearance of A-Rod’s name in a PED scandal and consequent suspension for the same. The suspension led to a year-long suspension. Effectively, the Yanks moved A-Rod to the position of Designated Hitter in his final two MLB seasons.
