Slowly but gradually the Los Angeles Dodgers have turned into a cultural force. At least in Los Angeles, they are one of the most beloved franchises. Their winning attitude, star-studded team, and ability to remain in touch with the city’s cultural trends are impeccable. So is it a surprise that Kendrick Lamar has always been a huge fan of them?

But now that Lamar is perhaps at the peak of his powers and coming off a tour de force, the Blue Crew have done their bit to pay homage to West Coast’s very own. The entire social media and in fact, the country has been gripped by Lamar’s feud with Drake.

“Great Rap War” as it is dubbed, has been one of the biggest cultural events of 2024. However, it seems Lamar had the last laugh as he got multiple hits through this feud, and perhaps the biggest of them all in “Not Like Us.” How big is the song? Well! The entire Dodger Stadium witnessed its craze yesterday.

As the Dodgers continued their domination by beating the Miami Marlins something familiar was playing through the stadium’s speakers. With Gavin Lux walking to the plate, the stadium began blustering “Not Like Us” loudly. The fans immediately cheered as the Blue Crew paid tribute to one of their own. From NBA games to MLB games, Kendrick Lamar seems to have captured everyone’s imagination.

Kendrick Lamar’s relationship with the Los Angeles Dodgers is a long one. The star has been seen attending the team’s games. More importantly unlike other celebrities, he didn’t sit on the home plate. Rather Lamar sat with the general population. Later, when Lamar won a Grammy in 2023, the Dodgers released a congratulatory post for him on their social media profiles.

Clearly, there is a lot of mutual respect between Kendrick Lamar and the Dodgers. More importantly, even before Gavin Lux’s entrance, the Men in Blue had already once used “Not Like Us” but it was for a different purpose.

Los Angeles Dodgers’ continuous Kendrick Lamar references

Before Gavin Lux’s walkout, the Dodgers used the song to troll the Atlanta Braves. The Blue Crew swept their biggest rivals for the National League pennant in a rather one-sided series. So just after their win on Saturday, the Blue Crew posted on their Instagram with the caption “Not Like Us.” Notably, the song also mentions Atlanta. However, it’s more due to the city’s connection with Drake.

However, it seems both Lamar and the Dodgers can’t stop winning. While the rapper might have just given everyone the No. 1 song of this summer, the Dodgers are becoming the team to watch out for. With nearly every player clicking simultaneously, one wonders just how high the Blue Crew will fly.  It really is the West Coast’s summer and we’re all here for it.
