The 2023 post-season has surprises queued up for the fans. However, at the other, a series of internal changes are taking place in the teams, ranging from players’ trade this offseason to the management altercations. A recent inside scoop from the Miami Marlins for the latter modifications has turned the heads in the baseball world.
Since Derek Jeter left the team, the Miami Marlins have been progressing at a great pace for the last three consecutive seasons, all thanks to their GM, Kim Ng, the first woman GM in baseball history. While Ng has recently concluded the last guaranteed year of her contract, the management got a surprising response when asked about the next year’s contract.
Kim Ng’s Bold Decision for 2024

Firing managers and general managers has become a trend this year. In a surprising turn of events, less than a fortnight after the Marlins’ postseason appearance, Miami received the news on Monday that general manager Kim Ng will not be with the team in 2024.

On Monday, Marlins chairman and principal owner Bruce Sherman announced that she wouldn’t return to the club in 2024. However, the owner of the team also confirmed that it was not the team’s decision. The club, according to The Athletic, “exercised Ng’s team option for the 2024 season,” but the GM herself declined the offer. The GM also shared the reason behind her sudden stepdown.

Talking to the same source, she said that she was in a discussion with the owner about the restructuring of the Marlins’ baseball operations department. According to her, the discussion didn’t go well, and following that, she found stepping down as the best option.
However, she expressed her gratitude, saying, “This year was a great step forward for the organization, and I will miss working with Skip and his coaches as well as all of the dedicated staff in baseball operations and throughout the front office. They are a very talented group, and I wish them great success in the future.”
However, it’s not only Kim Ng. Even Derek Jeter’s stepping down was revealed for the same reason.

In 2017, when Captain Clutch joined the Marlins, he had his aims for the team, but within 3 years, all shattered, and he stepped down from his post. During his interview, the MLB icon once revealed almost the same words as Kim Ng.
He said, “It’s just like the statement I made; I think that the direction of the organization had changed, and that was not what I had signed up for, and you know you have to believe in the direction, especially if you are going to be the forward face.” The legend revealed he couldn’t continue, as he was not satisfied with the path the team was moving forward.
