Just because the Knicks could not trade Mitchell in the previous offseason doesn’t diminish the possibility of him supporting the team of his native city.

Before Mitchell immersed himself in the world of basketball, he was an avid baseball player in high school. The NBA star even dreamt of playing the latter sport professionally and making his father and New York proud. However, destiny has its own plans. Sadly, after incurring injury, his high school baseball career switched to the sophomore. But as we know, Spida’s New York roots are commendable.

Baseball’s passion passed down through his father

Born and brought up to Donovan Sr. and Nicole in New York City, Mitchell holds his roots to the city and baseball mostly because of his father. Former minor league manager and coach, Donovan Sr, was committed to the Mets organization since 1999. Spida was around 2 to 3 years old when his father started working for the Mets. Due to his father’s close connection with the franchise, Mitchell frequently found himself in the company of players from the Mets’ minor league affiliates and developed a deep admiration for players such as David Wright.
