The New York Yankees are having a torrid time in 2023. The team has found a good vein of form. Having now improved their record to 58-53 after a decisive stretch of games. But their batting lineup continues to misfire. And while few will point to individuals to mark the decline, the fans continue to demand commitment from the players.

The Yankees offense has been in the line of fire recently. And with a crucial stretch of games, the Yankees have responded. However, with the Yankees taking on the Houston Astros, one player became the lightning rod for the fans’ criticism of a normally routine play.

Yankees Hitter Giancarlo Stanton Attracts Fans’ Ire

Despite a solid showing in the last game to grab a victory from the jaws of defeat, Stanton is not a favorite in the Bronx just yet.

Giancarlo Stanton may be a part of the Yankees’ high payroll, but his performances have left the fans wanting. Despite the righty hitter logging home runs in 3 consecutive games running, the hitter was criticized as a lack of intent in the Yankees’ win over the Astros on Saturday.

Playing at the bottom of the third, Stanton was on 2nd base after a hit of his own. But after Gleyber Torres’ base hit out to right field, the runner was slow off the blocks and couldn’t bring in the run being tagged at home plate.While the opportunity was surely a tough one; it wasn’t inconceivable that Stanton could’ve scored off the play.

The 2017 MVP has snagged 17 home runs this season, but despite that, only has an 0.765 OPS to show for it. And that with only 42 RBIs, the star is certainly underperforming. And the fans made their anger known at what looked like a lack of intent from the hitter.

Fans React to Stanton being tagged at Home Plate

Being fans of the ‘winningest’ franchise in baseball history, they expect certain standards from their player in pinstripes.

And while Stanton may have delivered from home plate this season, he certainly has left some fans wanting with his performances. Some fans banter over with the hitters’ speed rounding the bases.

And while Stanton was bought into the lineup as a power hitter, fans were quick to mark that simply dispatching the ball didn’t ring up the counter.

The Yankees still managed to register a win against the Houston Astros recording a 3-1 win on the night, but the question still looms over the franchise.
