As Opening Day draws closer to the 2023 MLB regular season, baseball fans are both excited and anxious. Spring Training has already claimed numerous victims, leaving some teams weakened. One of those teams is none other than the New York Mets, who have suffered several injuries during the preseason. Their pitching staff has been most impacted with three of their options out with injuries.

Even with Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer, and Kodai Senga in their rotation, the Mets might have a difficult start to the season. But fans are hoping that their team will persevere and hold out until their injured players return. Most recently, the Mets received an injury update on one of their injured pitching stars.

New York Mets pitcher Kodai Senga is suffering from tendinitis in his index finger

New York Mets pitcher Kodai Senga missed his start scheduled for Saturday, with discomfort. Fans hoped that it was not a serious injury and that their new acquisition would be ready for opening day. And to clarify the matter, the Mets have given clarity on the injury and Senga’s return in a Twitter post. Senga is reportedly suffering from tendinitis on part of his index finger and is considered day-to-day.

In a Tweet, the Mets said, “Kodai Senga underwent imaging today which showed tendinitis at the base of his index finger. He is considered day to day.” Notably, given the injury update, it is uncertain whether Senga will be pitching on the opening day for the Mets.

Fans also reacted to this news. Some fans are not optimistic, stating that this does not bode well for the Mets’ regular season. They pointed out that their pitching staff is already looking injury-prone. Furthermore, some pointed out that Senga may not be back as soon as the Mets hope.

For those unversed, the NPB and MLB use differently-sized balls and this may have been what caused Senga’s tendinitis. He has only played in NPB. Senga has not gotten used to gripping MLB-sized balls yet.
