The Pinstripes made it all the way to the ALCS, but were swept by the Houston Astros. In 2023, they will be aiming to do better and to do that, every player needs to be available.
A big problem for the Yankees in 2022 was that key players were injured. In a huge update on the World Baseball Classic, the Yankees have forced one of their star pitchers to pull out.

In a Tweet, Gomez said, “Starting pitcher Luis Severino will not be pitching for the Dominican Republic in the 2023 WBC because New York Yankees GM Brian Cashman did not allow him.” This will be a huge blow for the Dominican Republic team and their hopes of winning. Furthermore, they will have to replace Severino before the Classic starts. But it makes sense as the starting pitcher has missed a lot of time over the last few years.

Severino missed a lot of time last year due to multiple injuries over the course of the season. He was even pulled out of his best game last year to prevent injury. Furthermore, he only pitched 18 innings between 2019 and 2021 due to Tommy John surgery. That is likely the reason that caused Cashman to prevent him from playing in the World Classic. But Yankees fans will still get to see their team represented at the tournament.
Yankees star Nestor Cortes Jr. will suit up for Team USA at the World Baseball Classic
