The New York Yankees legend Derek Jeter became the CEO of Miami Marlins in the year 2017. Marlins was in a rebuilding mode that year, and therefore, some tough decisions also had to be taken. One such tough decision was letting go of the designated hitter and outfielder Giancarlo Stanton. He was told to either let go of the ‘no-trade’ clause or be a part of the Marlins’ rebuild. Both of which were denied by Stanton.

A fellow former Yankee turned broadcaster, Mark Teixeira, was not happy about how Jeter handled the situation. According to him, being such a great player and then the CEO of Marlins, Mark said Jeter should have at least tried to have a civil conversation with Stanton about the whole scenario.

According to Mark Teixeira, as soon as Jeter became the owner, the first phone call he should have made was to Stanton. Derek should have said to Stanton, “Hey! Listen, I want to get together. Let’s go have lunch, let’s go have coffee. Hey, we’re probably gonna tear this thing down. I know you don’t wanna hear that, but we’ll be in touch.”
