Once again, it appears that this won’t be the Miami Marlins’ season as each series goes by and they lose. What started as a great promise swiftly devolved into fighting for survival. Now, things have gotten even more frightening when their star pitcher landed himself in trouble after getting struck by a fellow catcher. But it wasn’t the first time.
A line drive was about to strike his head earlier as well, but fortunately, he lived through that incident. As if the problems are not ending for the Marlins!
The Miami Marlins somehow managed to win a game by 11-10 against the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday. However, in between the innings, one scary moment caught everyone’s attention. Marlins pitcher Ryan Weathers was warming up before his first inning. Nick Fortes made a throw to second base, which hit Weathers on the head. In no time, he was on the ground.

From the ump to fans, the reaction was the same: “OOOOOOH SNAP!”

Luckily, nothing serious happened, and he continued pitching. He managed to cool down the horrifying situation with humor, comparing himself to SpongeBob SquarePants. “I just felt very disconnected out there a little bit, just with, like, just all that adrenaline left me. It was kind of like that episode of SpongeBob when, like, everything is on fire inside of his brain.” LOL!

The left-hander got back on his feet after the massive blow and walked towards the infield.
What’s your perspective on:
Can Ryan Weathers' resilience turn the Miami Marlins' season around, or is it too late?
Have an interesting take?
No matter how funny Weathers tried to make the incident, it was a crazy moment. He felt like his brain was in a mess (hence, the SpongeBob reference). He was undoubtedly lucky enough. The situation could have turned out to be even worse. But there was no concussion on his head.
Some even went on to analyze the field heights and criticized Weathers for “walking across the tallest part of the mound” when he knew that a throw was coming!
Although Ryan Weathers getting back to the mound after that hit was certainly appreciable, he wasn’t at his best. In the three innings that he pitched, Weathers gave away three earned runs along with a walk and struck out only one batter. His fastballs that used to reach 97.5 mph also came down to around the 91-92 mph mark. As expected, he soon exited the game.

Marlins’ star is definitely up for a show in the future
Although the Miami Marlins are trailing behind the NL East this season, the only bright spot in their lineup is Ryan Weathers. Despite not pitching much for the team, Weathers still has a 3.28 ERA in his five starts. And there are definite reasons for Miami to root for our SpongeBob pitcher so much…
Pitcher Sandy Alcantara has been struggling for quite some time. He went 2-7 with a poor 7.89 ERA, 12 G, 57.0 IP, and made only 44 strikeouts. Simply put, rumors are swirling about a potential trade of Alcantara, too.
Now, in this time of adversity, Ryan Weathers’ performance is what matters the most for the Miami Marlins. His passion to perform isn’t the only thing that makes him unique. The most recent instance is when he pitched despite getting hit by the ball. He even went 1-1 with a 24.2 IP and struck out 23 batters this season. Not anything extraordinary, but also not something to ignore, given how early he is in his career now.

The reflection of his resilience and passion towards the game makes him a delight to watch every time he comes on the mound. With the Marlins sitting in a peculiar position, we all expect Weathers to get back his form as soon as possible. Maybe even help his team to get more wins and achieve a respectable position, at least, in the NL East.
