The 2025 World Series in Los Angeles is living up to the reputation — it’s a star-packed front row every day. After the likes of Justin Bieber and Lilly Singh lit up Game 3, it was royalty who stole the show on Tuesday. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were in the stands as Shohei Ohtani took the mound for Game 4. But was that a Dodgers cap they were wearing?

Yes. The two former royals arrived at Dodger Stadium in LA gear. Given that the Suits fame is a California native and that the couple has set up a residence close to Hollywood, the appearance would have been no shocker, only if it weren’t for their connection to Canada.
For seven years, from 2011 to 2017, Meghan spent 9 months each year in Toronto while filming “Suits”. She called it her second home, delighted about the vastness of the city, with the lack of paparazzi added to the benefit. But it wouldn’t end there.

After the couple ‘exited’ the Royal Family in March 2020, it was confirmed that they were moving to Canada. Meghan even shared how their little one would go ‘ahhh’ at the beauty of the country while just walking by. But, despite renting a home in Vancouver, the former royals left the country to move to California only about a week or so later.
On the other hand, Prince Harry’s link runs on a more diplomatic level– Canada is a member of the Commonwealth, and he has served on the committee too. Watching him and Meghan cheer for the opponents ticked off the Blue Jays faithful.

The frustration grew when a few pictures of Meghan Markle from years before surface on social media– she could be seen wearing a Blue Jays cap more than once.
The pair has been no stranger to MLB games over the years. Back in June 2019, they made a surprise appearance at London Stadium for the first-ever regular-season matchup between the Yankees and Red Sox. Attending as part of their royal duties, they represented the monarchy at an international event, meeting players from both teams and watching Invictus Games competitors throw the ceremonial first pitch.
The moment blended royal duty with global sports diplomacy. Now, with those duties behind them, their World Series appearance is purely personal.

Markle grew up in Los Angeles, where her father worked as a lighting director and her mother juggled social work and yoga teaching. She’s often spoken about her early struggles in the city. That California upbringing may explain her Dodgers loyalty — but it didn’t soften the blow for Canadian fans.
Fan reactions: Loyalty under scrutiny during World Series Game 4
Several fans pointed to Prince Harry’s position within the Commonwealth as a reason he should back Canada’s team.
One fan wrote, “Canada is a Commonwealth country… he should be repping the Blue Jays!” Harry’s past role as Commonwealth Youth Ambassador fueled those expectations, with many still seeing him as a symbol of the Commonwealth — even though he no longer holds that title.
The internet never forgets. “They should be repping the Jays. He’s a commonwealth prince and she got her career started in Toronto.” Back when she was filming Suits, she attended Blue Jays games in support of the team — now, she’s cheering for LA. The contrast between Toronto’s Rogers Center to Dodger Stadium didn’t go unnoticed.
One fan took a more assertive stance: “I have an issue with British Royals rooting against one of their Commonwealth. It’s a bad look. He should be wearing a Blue Jays cap to offset her Dodgers cap.” The comment underscores how some still expect royal figures to uphold Commonwealth loyalties, even after stepping back from official roles.
Then came the sarcasm: “Do they even know what baseball is?” Given their past MLB appearances, including the London Series, the remark reflected frustration more than doubt. Markle, in fact, knows the sport well — one of her cousins is wearing a Dodgers jersey this World Series.
Another fan offered an explanation: “To be fair, her ‘cousin’ Mookie plays for the Dodgers.” Indeed, Betts and Markle are distant cousins through marriage. Back in 2019, when Betts played for the Red Sox and Markle attended the game, the two shared a hug — a moment that quickly made headlines.
Whether the couple’s Dodgers support stems from family ties, California roots, or personal preference, their attendance at the World Series game proves that even royalty can’t escape the passionate debates over sports loyalty.
