It was supposed to be a turning point for the Los Angeles Angels. Especially with everyone expecting Mike Trout to step up, only to find themselves facing a humiliating loss against the Seattle Mariners. Inside the clubhouse, frustrations swirl in the air, and outside, the fans started to poke fun at Trout. The reason? The Angels outfielder suffered an injury in his left knee during the game on Wednesday and was soon sidelined.
But this isn’t the first time something happened like this with Mike Trout, right?
He suffered a similar injury to his knee last season as well. And as we all know, he missed 133 games in 2024, managing to play only 29 games, which was the lowest in his career since 2021. In a game that captivates fans, such a kind of incident often reveals how fragile the career of a decorated athlete can be.

It’s a stark reminder to all that even the best players may face setbacks that tend to threaten their momentum as well as the team’s. Mike Trout, known for his defensive skills and offensive prowess, has been a pillar for the Angels for quite some time. However, his recent injury while sprinting towards first base sidelined him in the middle of the game, highlighting the lingering impact of similar injuries earlier. Although he is optimistic about returning to the game soon against the Detroit Tigers, his track record of injuries and missing a majority of games in his career has left fans enraged. One of them even commented, “WHAT DID WE FANS DO TO DESERVE THIS?”
Mike Trout left today's game when his knee "felt weird" after this at-bat during today's game. He said he hopes to be in the lineup tomorrow for the Angels.

Clearly unimpressed and frustrated with the way things are going, the fan’s disappointment was evident, wasn’t it?
Definitely! While it may be a major concern for the team, it is not for the fans, who expect their team to perform at the highest level possible. After facing similar incidents earlier, Trout was substituted for a pinch hitter while at bat. However, that didn’t pay off! After pushing the ground ball at-bat in the third inning to second base, he leaped towards first and was thrown out narrowly. Trout tried to play another defensive inning, but unfortunately, he was taken off the field.
Over the past four seasons, Mike Trout has played only 259 games, and in 2024, he posted just 10 home runs and batted at a .220 average with a .325 OBP and a .866 OPS. That’s why fans are angry, as they literally lambast Mike Trout and even make jokes about him. And we all see that coming, right?

Mike Trout’s injury triggered funny reactions from the fans
What was expected to be a great season for Mike Trout quickly turned into a botched start. Trout was going well, as he already posted nine home runs this season with 18 RBIs, batting at a .179 average, with a .264 OBP and .726 OPS. However, following his injury, fans flooded social media, sharing their funny takes on Trout’s condition at the moment. One of them commented, “Told y’all, only good for the first 25 games of the season. Has been this exact way for a couple of years.” Trout has indeed been good this season, but that’s all. A similar bit of good signs was shown earlier as well, until he got sidelined. Last year, too, his game was cut short just after playing 29 games due to a torn meniscus.

More criticism followed: ” HERE WE GO,” as if it was expected by the fans. Not to forget that a succession of injuries, be it the torn meniscus, fractured wrist, or even the pin in the back and strained calf—everything has affected his on-field availability to a large extent.

“Another wasted year for him and the angels already and May hasn’t even started yet, lol.” Given the way Mike Trout is missing most of the games every season, it’s a worrying sign for the Los Angeles Angels. It’s just the start of the season, and there are more games to follow. Although Trout seems hopeful of making a return soon, in case that doesn’t happen, it might be a major setback for the Angels.
An X user took a funny dig at him, saying, “Don’t worry, Mike, you can have my knee.” Funny as it seems, but it cannot be denied that Trout faced a similar injury in his knee earlier as well, which sidelined him., So, if it continues, there are little chances of him getting back to the form he had earlier.
Amid the trolling and debates, a Mike Trout fan expressed his concern, “I hope my king is ok,” and why not? Trout has a decorated career—he has won AL MVP three times and has been an All-Star eleven times in his career. The 33-year-old has posted a .297/.408/.579 slash line at a .986 OPS while posting 387 home runs, 972 RBIs, and 214 stolen bases, which is massive. Also, his 85.7 WAR and 55 triples still remain the highest among the players who are active at present in MLB.
