

Right since his playing days, Derek Jeter has always had an ever-growing public influence. Through his consistent game-changing performances, he proved his hard-earned reputation as a leader. Additionally, he has tried to inculcate those same leadership skills into the youth of society through his charity. Recently, Jeter paid a surprise visit at an event felicitating the young leaders associated with his program.

Back when Jeter was still active as a player, he launched his charitable trust, Turn 2 Foundation in 1996. The organization has thus awarded $30 million in grants in total since then to support youth development programs. Notably, the foundation has also completed its 26th anniversary this year. Following on, there was recently a special felicitation event for Jeter’s leaders, where Derek and his sister Sharlee dropped by.

A special tribute to the leaders of Derek Jeter’s program
This year, in particular, Derek Jeter’s Turn 2 Foundation raised funds worth $2 million. The charity benefits kids around New York, Michigan, and Tampa, where Jeter has got past and present associations. Turn 2 Foundation primarily focuses on promoting leadership, academic excellence, and healthy lifestyles. Many of the graduates from Jeter’s Leadership Program got honored at the annual dinner in October.

Each of those senior leaders from Jeter’s programs in New York and Michigan graduated high school in the spring. They are presently pursuing courses of their choice at the nation’s leading universities. A few of those universities include prestigious institutions like Columbia University, Yale University, and Cornell University. There was recently a special event for the youngsters of Jeter’s Leaders program.

Derek and his sister Sharlee surprised the youngsters by making a guest appearance. However, they were there for a specific purpose. Both Derek and Sharlee handed over Movado watches to each of the youngsters attending the Leaders’ event. Interestingly, Derek has remained a brand ambassador of Movado since 2006.

Speaking at the 26th anniversary dinner back in October, Derek said, “First of all, it’s hard to believe it’s been 26 years. That means I’m getting old. It’s very rewarding. Our foundation means so much to me and means so much to our entire family. When we set out 26 years ago, we never thought we would be where we are today. A lot of the credit goes to our supporters, our sponsors and donors.”
