Remember when the Blue Jays’ slugger George Springer called out the umpires for being biased toward the Yankees during that ALDS game? He was caught in the dugout saying, “If they want New York to win, just tell me and give it to them already.” Did things really go full circle this time?

The Blue Jays are the ones being accused of getting special treatment. Reportedly, after Toronto’s 6–2 win over the Mariners in Game 6, MLB’s official X account posted a celebratory tweet. But fans thought it came off like the Jays were the only team deserving a World Series spot.

The Blue Jays are ONE WIN AWAY from the World Series! GAME 7 TOMORROW NIGHT!” MLB posted via X. This comes along with an image showing the Jays’ lineup. For a few fans, it’s like MLB is focused only on pushing the Jays to the World Series.

An image featuring both teams and the same caption that both teams are just one win away from entering the World Series. So, clearly, this post amplified the long-standing debate about MLB’s East Coast bias.

Accusations of MLB favoring the East Coast are nothing new.

It’s been a talking point for years, mainly because the Eastern and Central time zones have bigger TV audiences for prime-time games. Networks naturally lean toward showing teams from major markets like the Yankees or Red Sox, since those matchups pull in higher ratings than late-night West Coast games.

So, in a way, this latest controversy isn’t all that surprising.

That said, it’s not the first time MLB’s social media has focused on just one team.

Just last October, they posted a special video highlighting Mariners slugger Eugenio Suarez’s historic home run. And now, MLB’s recent posts have been all about the Blue Jays celebrating their big wins. Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s homers and other highlights.

Taking that into account, one fan commented, “Actually, both teams are one win away. Dummy can see the East Coast bias in MLB and Fox broadcasts.

The debate over MLB’s bias is far from over, and fan chatter online is keeping it very much alive.

MLB gets called out over their Blue Jays post

For the majority of fans, it’s absolutely fine for MLB to post about the Blue Jays being one game away from the World Series. It’s historic considering that since 1993, they haven’t won any. However, for the Mariners, it’s equally historic, if not more, because they have yet to make it to the World Series ever. “There’s another team only one win away,” one fan remarked.

“I’m not a math guy, but after running the numbers, I came up with the Mariners also being only one win away. Feel free to correct my math if I’m off,” another fan sarcastically called out MLB.

One comment went quote direct in that matter. “I know you’re rooting for Toronto, but both teams are one win away.”

Another questioned, “It’s a game 7, MLB aren’t both teams one game away?” Tbh, MLB didn’t actually miss posting about the Mariners. On October 18, MLB posted the same for the Mariners with a caption, “THE MAGIC NUMBER IS ONE FOR THE MARINERS.” So, accusing MLB of bias might not be entirely right.

“MLB and their bias is so blatant that I’m shocked that this post wasn’t about Ohtani.” Not only the Blue Jays, but MLB is also accused of favoring the Dodgers and Shohei Ohtani. Anyone going through MLB’s official X handle, and a few contents about Ohtani’s record-breaking run, his home runs, and strikeouts will be bombarded. Even keeping the Blue Jays content aside, the only other entity that takes up MLB’s maximum content space is Shohei Ohtani. But it is probably normal, given that you get the maximum traffic and engagement leveraging on your biggest superstar!

In the end, it might all be about MLB targeting the markets and nothing about being biased. At least in the case of ALCS, both teams got a pat back from MLB with dedicated posts. But right now, it doesn’t look like enough to put the debate to rest.
