The New York Yankees are on a winning streak, and it looks like everything has gone off the rails. During their 4th consecutive win, a Yankees announcer made a statement that made fans lose their minds, and on the other side they can’t help but worry about Heliot Ramos.

“The Yankees, three runs in an inning, it’s an offensive o***. And this guy really needed it. Ramos goes the other way. His first RBI as a Yank,” and every word in this comment carries more weight than we can understand.

Michael Kay caught everyone off guard Thursday with an unexpected description of the Yankees’ third inning. The phrase sounded shocking until Kay explained that Ramos really needed that moment. Ramos had just delivered his 5th Yankees hit and first RBI against Baltimore.

His double helped New York score 3 runs during the early innings. Suddenly, Kay’s unusual comment carried a little more meaning for the Yankees fans.

The moment mattered because Ramos had endured a rough start since joining the Yankees. He entered the game with just three hits in 42 plate appearances, all doubles, and was still searching for his first RBI with New York.

That moment came against Kyle Bradish. Ramos finally found a pitch and drove it into center. That hit gave him something to take from the game after helping the Yankees score for once.

Ramos came into the Yankees after hitting .264 with the Giants, and that gave New York some hope. But his Yankees production has barely moved, with his season wRC+ falling to 89.

His contact has been hard, but too many of his balls in play have been on the ground, limiting the results of that hard contact. Separately, the Yankees entered the game having failed to score a first-inning run in 19 consecutive games

For a team needing offense, these missed chances have become a curse.

Those struggles have become harder to ignore because the Yankees are already missing major offensive pieces. Aaron Judge is still on the IL, while Cody Bellinger has also been unavailable. Those missing pieces have forced Ramos into the lineup with the expectations of consistent output.

Instead, his output has just become another problem for the already fragile batting lineup.

But Aaron Boone, the ever-loving and forgiving coach, has continued giving Ramos chances because he believes that Ramos will improve. Boone said Ramos probably wants to prove himself after coming to the Yankees and will want to prove himself in the spotlight.

He also said that Ramos usually hits left-handed pitching well, but has faced a lot of right-handers this season. That matchup could change once Judge, Bellinger, and Stanton return to the lineup. And the Yankees fans will hope that it does because, even though they are 9.5 games ahead and top of the Wild Card Spot, they have some important series against the Blue Jays and the Red Sox, and it could change how the season ends for the team.
