Born just 14 minutes apart, the Witherspoon brothers are set to make a splashy entrance through the doors of the MLB Draft. The elder Witherspoon twin ranks as the MLB Pipeline’s No. 10-ranked prospect for the 2025 Draft. When asked about being selected in Round 1, he chose to credit the selflessness of his mother, Meg Witherspoon, for the foundation of his and his brother’s journey. “We want to take care of our mom,” Kyson said in an interview with USA TODAY Sports. “She’s done everything in the world for us. We wouldn’t be here without her.“
As a single parent, Meg took on the duties of both a father and a mother upon her shoulders. And her children saw her do it all, so now, “Whatever she needs, whatever she wants,” they want to do it for her. After all, “it’s all hers. The only reason we’ve been able to go through this is because of her.”

Does Meg Witherspoon's story redefine what it means to be a 'Super Mom' in sports?
Have an interesting take?
Meg is indeed a “Super Mom,” as Kyson previously described her during an appearance on the Amateur Hour podcast. She didn’t just make sure to pay the bills, she was involved in all important moments of her kids’ lives. You know, she once drove 17 hours in a U-Haul to move them into their college dorm at Northwest Florida State College. When the twins transferred to Oklahoma, she even repeated the grueling trip.
“Her whole mindset was to put us in something, whatever sport it was. She used to keep us busy. Keep us out of trouble. She has been there for everything. That’s really awesome, that super mom,” Kyson had said on the podcast. Meg raised her twins and a daughter, Kylei, in Neptune Beach, Florida. She worked tirelessly with a 75-hour workweek to fund their baseball dreams. Even if it required her to take 3-4 jobs at once, she never let her kids worry about food. But at the same time, she was tough. She didn’t allow her twins to play baseball unless they got A’s in school. And that discipline brought them so far.

Witherspoon brothers poised for MLB Draft spotlight
Kyson Witherspoon’s collegiate dominance at Oklahoma (10-4 record, 2.65 ERA, 124 strikeouts in 95 innings) solidified him as a first-round talent. His arsenal—a 99-mph fastball, plus cutter, and swing-and-miss slider—earned him Golden Spikes Award semifinalist honors. Despite projections linking him to the Reds at No. 9 or the White Sox at No. 10, industry whispers suggest he could slide to Oakland at No. 11, where the pitching-needy A’s have scouted him aggressively.
The A’s, barred from lottery picks due to revenue-sharing rules, see Kyson as a potential cornerstone for their rebuild. His athleticism and “winner’s mentality” align with Oakland’s ethos. His maturity—honed by cleaning bathrooms and babysitting to support his family—resonates with their culture. MLB Final mock draft also projected Kyson as No. 11 for the A’s. If not, then he may land in the San Francisco Giants as the No. 13 pick.
