In 2004, Derek Jeter went through the worst offensive slump of his 20-year career. The Yankee legend went 32 at-bats without recording a hit. It was his worst stretch of batting in his career by far. But what made it worse was the fact that Jeter faced constant reminders that he was in a slump. He couldn’t even leave his house without being reminded of it by his doorman. This put him under added pressure every day.

I’ve got a feeling this is it!’ You’re trying not to think about it, yet everywhere you go, you’re constantly reminded of it. It wasn’t so much people giving me advice as it was people saying, ‘We’re pulling for you.’ It’s everywhere you turn–people on the street, the questions from the media every day.”

But luckily, Jeter was able to get over the slump and hit a home run to end it. During a recent appearance on the Tonight Show, Jeter even revealed a secret item that helped him end the slump. He admitted to having worn his teammate’s lucky golden thong after his 32nd at bat and managed to hit a home run to break the slump. This batting slump was even more shocking if you take into account Jeter’s consistency over the years.

Throughout his MLB career, Derek Jeter was one of the most consistent hitters in baseball. He had a good eye and would make contact regularly. Over the course of his career, Jeter batted at .300 and above 12 times.
