As jersey sleeve sponsorships reached all 30 franchises across MLB, the total sponsorship revenue has climbed to a record $2.12 billion this year. SponsorUnited’s 2026 report from October 29 revealed how sponsorship has thrived and grown this season. SponsorUnited is a Stamford, Connecticut-based global sports and entertainment intelligence platform that tracks sports and entertainment sponsorship data. The organization publishes its report at the end of the World Series.
“Over five seasons, MLB sponsorship revenue grew 57%, compared with just 17% growth in total deals. The average number of assets per deal rose from 7.08 to 8.32, reflecting a shift toward broader, more integrated partnerships rather than simply adding more sponsors,” read SponsorUnited’s report.
According to the report, team sponsorship revenue increased by 7.3% compared to the adjusted 2025 figure of $1.98 billion. The growth also represents a 57% increase since 2022, when MLB teams collectively generated approximately $1.35 billion through sponsorship agreements.
A detailed look at the number of deals gives us a clearer perspective on the recorded revenue growth. MLB recorded 3,732 sponsorship deals in 2026— it marks a 17% increase from the 3,195 agreements reported in 2022. However, the number of deals increased by only 1.2% year over year. It shows that the league’s financial progress is being increasingly driven by more valuable partnerships rather than simply adding more sponsors.
The average sponsorship deal reached $590,000, marking a 5.9% increase from the previous year. Furthermore, the average number of sponsorship assets included in each agreement climbed to 8.32, compared to 7.08 in 2022. This indicates that brands are increasingly seeking broader partnerships involving multiple marketing opportunities.
Financial services remained the biggest sponsorship category, generating an estimated $349 million in 2026. It recorded a nearly 12% year-over-year increase. Beverage sponsorships followed with $176 million, while automotive and insurance generated approximately $155 million and $151 million, respectively. Insurance sponsorship recorded a 3.62% year-over-year increase.
All 30 MLB franchises now having jersey sleeve sponsorship agreements shows the expansion of commercial opportunities beyond traditional stadium advertising and broadcast placements.
Sponsorship growth in individual franchises
The overall growth in sponsorship is a reflection of the sponsorship revenue increase in each franchise.
The Tampa Bay Rays, the team with one of the lowest payrolls, led the league with a 33.8% year-over-year increase in sponsorship revenue. The Athletics followed the Rays with a 19.3% year-over-year increase. The Los Angeles Dodgers also recorded a 14.5% growth in 2026. They became the first North American professional sports team to surpass $200 million in annual sponsorship revenue in 2025.
However, MLB’s $2.12 billion achievement becomes even more significant when compared with other major American sports leagues.
The NFL remains the leader in team sponsorship revenue. According to SponsorUnited figures reported in February 2026, NFL teams generated approximately $2.7 billion in sponsorship revenue during 2025, representing an 11% year-over-year increase. The NBA also enjoyed a substantial commercial year, with sponsorship revenue reaching approximately $1.9 billion during the 2024-25 season, according to IEG’s sponsorship wrap-up report.
The NHL, meanwhile, generated approximately $1.53 billion in team sponsorship revenue during its 2024-25 season, marking a 9% increase from the previous year.
The numbers place MLB ahead of the NBA and NHL in sponsorship revenue, although the NFL continues to maintain its advantage. The comparison also highlights baseball’s ability to monetize its extensive regular-season schedule, regional fan bases, and year-round commercial relationships.
Moreover, these figures represent team sponsorship revenue rather than the leagues’ entire annual revenue. While differences in reporting periods and research methodologies can produce different results, these numbers give us an estimate of how lucrative the sponsorship deals actually are.
Regardless, MLB’s latest milestone reflects a healthy commercial trend. With jersey patches now established across the league, international audiences expanding, and teams finding new ways to engage corporate partners, baseball has several opportunities to sustain its financial momentum.
The $2.12 billion mark demonstrates Major League Baseball’s commercial evolution, with increasingly valuable partnerships helping the league compete with the biggest sporting leagues of the United States.
