Despite the controversies that he faced during his storied MLB career, Alex Rodriguez has been one of the best ever to step foot in the ballpark. Players with determination, like A-Rod, come only once in a while. Being born in Manhattan to Dominican Republic migrants, Rodriguez has always been a Dominican by heart. However, during his baseball career, in 2006, he got heavily criticized when he decided to play for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic instead of Team DR.

Therefore, to compensate, A-Rod decided that he’ll be switching teams in the next WBC. So, in 2009 WBC, Rodriguez was supposed to play for his homeland, Dominican Republic. Everything was going well; uniform fittings were also done. But at the last moment, A-Rod suffered a hip injury and needed surgery right away. Thus, his dream of playing for DR remained only a dream. However, during the ongoing WBC, the former Yankee talked about his mother’s feelings when she first saw him wearing the uniform of the Dominican Republic.
