Did Steve Cohen’s plan to pursue Juan Soto just get revealed? We know that the Mets are aggressively after Soto; industry sources have confirmed Cohen’s plans to meet Soto’s agent Scott Boras very soon, possibly next week. Soto is the most valuable free agent this offseason, so naturally, teams are eager to meet with his agent and get down to business. The earlier they get to talk with Boras, the faster they will get their hands on Juan.

This week will surely be hectic for Soto and Boras – numerous team owners are in talks to meet with them. It is still unclear if Hal Steinbrenner will also meet with Soto, but there’s certainly a possibility. According to the New York Post, Steve Cohen has a trip planned to meet Scott Boras in Southern California. Cohen’s previous tours have been fruitful; remember when he went down to Japan with the president of baseball operations David Stearns? That trip, too, was to discuss a new joining – Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

Cohen had a word with Stearns, both agreed, and he threw a dinner party. Later, they signed a 12-year deal; so, is that what Steve plans to do with Juan Soto upon reaching Southern Cal? After all, the pursuit of Yamamoto was a race between two coveted teams – the Mets and the Yankees both wanted the pitcher, leaving no stone unturned. Now, they are again going after the same free agent this offseason, but this meeting could be about much more than just the deal with Juan Soto

Scott Boras has a few other names in his clientele that Cohen might be interested in, including Corbin Burns, Blake Snell, Alex Bregman, and Pete Alonso. It’s no secret that Alonso has been trying to get back to the Mets on a long-term deal, so, this meet-up could build a new opportunity for him too.

Juan Soto is not the solo free-agent player in demand

As the final pitch of the World Series signaled the closing of another thrilling MLB season, the spotlight quickly turned to one of the most exciting periods in baseball: Free Agency. Among the names hitting the open market, besides Juan Soto, is none other than New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso. For six seasons, the 30-year-old slugger has been blasting 30 or more home runs every year, with the exception of the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign.

With a career that includes three All-Star selections and the 2019 National League Rookie of the Year Award, Alonso has solidified his place among baseball’s elite. Now, as he proceeds free agency, the big question is: Where will Polar Bear land next? Some analysts believe Alonso is aiming for a deal of somewhere around seven years and $200 million, or perhaps even more. The New York Mets, eager to retain one of their cornerstones, will almost certainly push to lock up Alonso with a long-term deal, but at what cost?

With a price tag of $200 million or more, the Mets will have to decide if Alonso’s bat is worth that kind of commitment. Conversely, they might concentrate on snagging another star; so, what’s your opinion on Pete Alonso’s future possibilities in the team? Let us know below.
