It was assumed to be a season of promise, a year when the Los Angeles Dodgers, with their star-studded roster, would march toward a deep playoff run. However, multiple unfortunate moments have shaken the team’s base and left the fans holding their breath. What once looked like a minor setback is now snowballing into something much more concerning.

When an injured star, specifically one with big thoughts—adds uncertainty to the roster, it could prove to be a game-transformer. With a star effectively headed for some time on the IL, the team is left scrambling for answers.

The enhanced concern is about Tommy Edman. He is the Dodgers’ $74 million addition this year and was assumed to provide tough defense and flexibility on the field. He also appeared in 30 of the team’s 32 games. However, this season has thrown a wrench in those plans. After going through a right ankle injury in a routine slide into second base, Edman’s availability has come into question.

Edman had been a significant part of the team’s success early in the season. However, he has not been in the lineup since his injury and has already missed big games. Dave Roberts was initially optimistic, saying that the star would likely be available soon. However, current updates have suggested otherwise. “I think it is a day-to-day thing,” said the manager, further fueling concerns about Edman’s future. “I do not want to put us or him in a position where there is much expectation… My expectation is he would be available off the bench to pinch-hit.” That tone highlights that the team is beginning to brace itself for a longer absence.

As the situation remains fluid, there is a powerful silver lining for the team: Hyeseong Kim. The 26-year-old star could be called up as a reinforcement. “Hyeseong Kim is getting called up! Of course, anything can happen until it is made official, and things can always change in the middle of that process, but the source that provided this information has a 100% track record,” reported by Dodgers Daily. This report highlights Kim’s impending promotion. With Edman’s situation hanging in the balance, Kim could fill a gap.

However, will Kim be the answer the Dodgers need? Will Edman’s unavailability become a larger issue? The team is hedging their bets with multiple replacements already filling in for Edman, with Miguel Rojas and Enrique Hernández manning second base. But while Hernández has shown some promise against left-handers with a .435 slugging percentage, Rojas was ineffective, particularly against righties. In such situations, Kim’s call-up could provide quick help. However, the long-term outcome of Edman’s injury remains unclear.

Dodgers ride hot streak but depth faces real-period test in Braves rematch

If the Dodgers are going through the effects of missing Edman, the team sure is not showing it in the win column. With six straight wins—including four against the Braves—the Dodgers continue to dominate without their $74M infielder. Mookie Betts has ramped up again and broke out of his mini-slump with a homer and two hits in Friday’s 2-1 win. However, the offense hasn’t been firing on all cylinders. Pitching continues to carry weight as the rotation juggles injuries. Such a road trip could effectively highlight how deep the team really is.

But there is a catch: the rotation’s durability is on thin ice. With Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow going through shoulder issues and Kershaw still out rehabbing toe and knee issues, the team could need to bend its usual protocol. In addition, Roki Sasaki and Yoshinobu Yamamoto could quickly work on five days’ rest instead of six. Roberts hinted at this by saying, “We did it with Yamamoto last year… it is another thought.” Such a decision looms large as Sasaki faces off against Spencer Schwellenbach, whose pinpoint power has impressed. This stretch will not just test capability—it will test how adaptable this team really is.
