The Fish needs oxygen but where can it find some? The Miami Marlins are currently sinking faster than a boulder sinks in the sea. For a team that won 84 games last season, starting the season with a record of 1-10 makes no sense. But that is exactly what has happened with the Miracle Marlins. As a result, speculations are rife that we might be seeing our first “fire sale” in the season. Is a reset the only option left for the Florida side?

The issue isn’t that the Marlins have lost 10 games, it’s that nearly every one of their losses has been quite straightforward. The team that looked on the verge of something special just a year ago is looking in need of major surgery. Perhaps that’s why a rebuild is being expected. But if a rebuild does occur, who are the players who could see themselves on the trading list?

Miami Marlins sinks – now in search of some support

The Marlins entered the New York Yankees series with mild optimism. They had just ended their 9-game losing streak by beating the St. Louis Cardinals 10-3. The fans wondered whether that was the beginning of a turn-around for their team. Understandably it seems they were wrong, the Yankees have just beaten the Marlins 7-0. That has raised questions regarding the Marlins’ potential rebuild.

Just a few days ago USAToday’s Bob Nightengale had reported that the Marlins could be looking at a fire sale soon. The shocking part isn’t that the team might trade some of its biggest stars but that their manager might be leaving soon too. The NL manager of the year last season Skip Schumaker will be a free agent next season and there haven’t been any reports on a potential extension yet.

Though the Marlins did have a club option to extend Schumaker’s stay for another year, they agreed to void that option this winter. Perhaps the almost impending exit of their skipper plus the terrible form of the team has made it all the more logical that a rebuild is about to begin. But that raises the question – which stars could be departing this franchise?

Is the Fish about to shed old skin for something new?

Though the Marlins aren’t a traditionally big market team they do have some great players to use as bargain chips. According to Bob Nightengale – Jazz Chisholm, Josh Bell, Jesus Luzardo, Luis Arraez, and Braxton Garrett could be top commodities for the team if they intend to start a rebuild.

Still, it’s quite surprising that the Marlins are the ones who are struggling the most currently. With the way they ended last season, the sky seemed to be the limit for them. But their current condition once again proves that nothing is certain in baseball. However, then again, we’re talking about Miracle Marlins – could they pull off another miracle this season? It certainly will be a sight to see if they do.
