What began as a high-energy rally on a Saturday night suddenly turned tense. While the Yankees were in the middle of a four-run burst, all attention unexpectedly shifted to 2B, where Jazz Chisholm Jr. was identified making subtle hand gestures. From the Braves’ dugout, their coach was not having it. He pointed to his head and exchanged a heated argument with Chisholm that sparked a moment that quickly overshadowed the game.

Now this is where it gets murky. The Yankees thought the Braves coach Eddie Pérez was referencing a possible beanball threat—an insinuation that someone could throw at Chisholm’s head. Eddie Pérez, though, brushed that off and said to reporters that he was simply warning the Yankees star to “be smart.” However, that gesture, that stare, and that moment? It did not sit well with anyone. Yankees Aaron Boone did not mince words either: “If he meant it that way, it would deserve some looking into.

That is exactly what MLB is doing now. As per reports, MLB has launched an investigation to determine if any real threat was made toward the star. The infielder, usually never short on statement, had no comment after the game, suggesting the moment could have hit deeper than just a routine dust-up.

Adding more layers to the drama, video footage highlighted that Chisholm was seemingly trying to help teammate Anthony Volpe by reading Rafael Montero’s pitch trend from 2 B. It is legal, common, and something every team does. Aaron Boone doubled down on that idea also and said, “Everyone tries to find those little edges—it’s part of the game.” However, things took a wrong turn when Chisholm reached third and the shouting match began.

The Braves coach later tried to ease the fire. “I like that guy,” Perez said, referring to Chisholm. “He’s one of my favorites”, the coach added. However, that olive branch came too late. The damage, at least in thought, was already done, and with MLB now engaged, what looked like just another fiery MLB moment could have much larger implications attached.

As MLB investigates the feud engaging Braves coach Eddie Pérez and Jazz Chisholm Jr., a distinctive storm could be quietly forming inside the Braves—one that does not engage with beanballs, but rather big decisions.

Braves manager role under the spotlight as Schumaker and Weiss emerge as powerful successors.

As per reports from USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, the Braves could soon be searching for a new skipper, with current manager Brian Snitker possibly nearing the end of his tenure. In the list? Former Marlins manager Skip Schumaker, the 2023 NL Manager of the Year. Schumaker guided the Marlins to a surprise playoff berth just a season ago. He also earned widespread praise for turning around a struggling team. Though Schumaker’s 2024 campaign did not live up to expectations, ending with a 62-98 record, his prior success and managerial qualities have placed Schumaker firmly on the Braves’ radar. Notably, he walked away from the Marlins late last season after a personal loss and left the door open for a fresh start.

Yet, Schumaker is not the only name floating around the Braves’ management.

The other top contender? Current Braves bench coach Walt Weiss. He has already built trust inside the team. Walt Weiss is a former Rockies manager from 2013 to 2016 and part of the Braves’ 2021 World Series-winning staff. He also opted to stay loyal to the Braves when he declined an interview with the Marlins in 2022, and that job was eventually taken by Schumaker. That history adds another intriguing wrinkle to the mix.

The 2 candidates have veteran experience—one with accolades, the other with deep familiarity. However, with the Braves’ season slipping and powerful team changes looming, the choice will not just be related to credentials. It will be related to who can weather a storm, rebuild chemistry, and calm the noise on and off the field.
