Major League Baseball has taken disciplinary action against 12 members of the LA Angels and Seattle Mariners for their benches-clearing fight a day earlier. It was not the first benches-clearing brawl of the 2022 MLB season. But this one was more violent and aggressive.

Irrespective of the result of the game, MLB fans will remember this series for the epic brawl between the American League sides. The Angels manager Phil Nevin and the Mariners player, Jesse Winker, have received some strong punishments. MLB has suspended Nevin for ten games, while Winker has also received a seven-game suspension.

The suspensions were on the cards because it was too hard for the umpires to handle the brawl between the two teams. It will affect the performances of both teams, especially the Angels, as they are already having a poor season. And things like this will only make it worse.

MLB suspends nine LA Angels members

The Angels staff and players will be facing nine out of 12 suspensions. Apart from manager Phil Nevin, the Angels will also miss the services of Anthony Rendon — who is already on IL — pitching coach Dom Chiti, and pitchers Ryan Tepera and Raisel Iglesias for multiple games.

What led to the brawl between the Angels and Mariners?

During the third game of the series, things went wild when the Angels pitcher Andrew Wantz threw a wayward pitch to the Mariners’ star Jesse Winker. It was not the first hit-by-pitch incident in the series. Per Yahoo Sports, the Angels slugger Mike Trout also faced the same from the Mariners in the previous game.

And when the Angels pitcher hit Winker on his back, both teams engaged in a benches-clearing brawl. The brawl also led to the ejection of six players and managers of both teams.

Considering the involvement of both teams in the brawl, do you think MLB has been harsh on the Angels?
