The Los Angeles Dodgers are not content with just owning the title of World Series. They now want to be the champions of the offseason too, but how? Well, the team might just land the biggest prize: Juan Soto. Fresh off their dramatic victory over the Yankees in the 2024 World Series, the Dodgers are reportedly set to meet with the superstar outfielder this Tuesday.

Juan Soto is the top candidate in this year’s free agent class, capable of altering the landscape of any franchise. And the Dodgers is a team that isn’t afraid to open its wallet. Last winter, they splurged more than $1 billion on an all-star roster, among their top acquisitions were Shohei Ohtani.

The Dodgers are next in line

Ohtani became the face of the franchise in a historic 10-year, $700 million deal. Yoshinobu Yamamoto, the Japanese pitching sensation, also signed a 12-year, $325 million contract with the LA team. Ohtani’s debut season in the Dodgers exceeded all expectations, so much so that ESPN’s Alden González reported that his first year with the Dodgers “blew away all their financial projections.” The Dodgers require an outfielder, so, landing Soto would be a priority for the squad now.

That kind of success, however, hasn’t made the Dodgers shy about further upgrading their already star-studded lineup. And with Ohtani’s contract featuring creative deferrals, they have the desired financial flexibility to potentially land another massive deal, like the one Juan Soto is bound to command. Soto’s next sit-down with the Dodgers could be the one that tips the scales, who had a reunion meeting with the Yanks execs.

The New York Yankees are pulling out all the stops in their pursuit of Juan Soto. On Monday, owner Hal Steinbrenner, general manager Brian Cashman, and manager Aaron Boone met with Soto in Southern California. They hoped to convince the superstar outfielder to return to the Bronx. After a solid but ultimately disappointing 2024 season, the Yankees believe Soto could be the missing piece to propel them back into championship contention.

However, the Yankees face stiff competition for Soto’s services – the Los Angeles Dodgers, fresh off their World Series title, with deep pockets and a star-studded roster, makes them an attractive option for any free agent. Other teams like the Philadelphia Phillies and San Francisco Giants are also in the mix, which highlights that Soto has no shortage of choices.

Thus, the Yankees have a strong pitch to make – the team can showcase their rich history, winning culture, and ability to contend year in and year out to motivate Soto. But with so many suitors, it remains to be seen what Juan Soto will prioritize – a legacy and a chance to be part of the Yankees’ storied franchise, or the financial offers and winning opportunities presented by their rivals.

The battle for Soto’s signature is only just beginning. So, which team do you believe will be Juan Soto’s future destination? Share in the comments below.
