The Philadelphia Phillies are likely to make changes to their veteran core this winter. With Kyle Schwarber’s future uncertainty in the clubhouse, there’s yet another narrative going on. And it’s their $100 million outfielder who could be the first domino to fall. The whispers were there for a long time, but now the analyst has started predicting the next possible ballclub for him.

Nick Castellanos inked a five-year, $100 million deal with Philadelphia, but the final year of that contract in 2026 could be spent elsewhere. The trouble started late in the season when manager Rob Thomson cut his playing time during crucial playoff games. Castellanos didn’t hide his frustration, and that public display of grimness seems to have set off something that can’t be undone. The relationship went bad quickly, and now both sides seem ready to move on.

Tim Kelly, the Managing Editor of OnPattison, captured the clubhouse energy just right when he wrote that Castellanos was “non-committal” about his future with the Phillies after they lost to the Dodgers in the NLDS. At his end-of-year press conference, baseball operations president Dave Dombrowski matched that enthusiasm when he said, “It would be fair to say that … we’re not sure if he can continue here.” Philadelphia is looking to trade him, and the signs are clear.

Enter Jim Riely’s prediction. The analyst sees Kansas City as the “perfect landing spot” for Castellanos. The Royals have young hitters with potential but lack veterans. “I want to see them bring in some veterans that can do some things with the stick,” Riely explained, suggesting Philadelphia could sweeten the deal by covering part of Castellanos’s $20 million salary. Paired with Mike Yastrzemski in the outfield corners, Castellanos would give Kansas City the offensive punch it’s been missing.

This isn’t the first time analysts have guessed the Royals are the team for him. Jon Heyman brought up the Royals link in June, saying they “might consider Nick Castellanos if he is available.” Kansas City’s front staff needs to pay attention now that availability looks genuine.

Time will tell whether the Royals will have the Artist in the lineup or if there will be some other club. And for the Phillies? Well, they are looking for other options.

Exploring outfield options, the Phillies’ strategy points toward Castellanos’ exit

The recent rumours about the Philadelphia Phillies-Los Angeles Angels pipeline show that Philadelphia’s outfield predicament is still up in the air and that a big transaction involving an experienced player may be on the way.

As per the reports by Halo Hangout, the Angels had a better than 50% chance of dealing one of their star veteran outfielders, either Taylor Ward or Jo Adell. The Phillies were listed as a key partner in these trades. The report talks about three other trade scenarios: Adell going to Philadelphia for left-handed starter Jesus Luzardo; Ward going to Edmundo Sosa; or a bigger deal that includes Ward and prospects going to Andrew Painter, the Phillies’ best pitching prospect, and Brandon Marsh, an outfielder.

The Phillies are exploring trade options for their corner outfielders instead of keeping their current roster. They seem prepared to make changes that align with their long-term goals and are linking credible trade offers for Adell and Ward to the team’s needs, showing they are open to trading established outfield players.

In light of that, there is a high probability of Nick Castellanos’ trade. If Philadelphia is looking for outfield upgrades and isn’t afraid to make changes, it makes natural that Castellanos may be part of their realignment. He only has one season left on his contract, and things are getting more tense in his role.
