Few couples have drawn the attention and fanfare that Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez did during their 4-year relationship. From 2017 through 2021, the couple made fans gush with their public displays of love and support for each other. After having gotten engaged with a $1.8 million engagement ring, the two seemed happy and in love. But in the summer of 2019, JLo made a ‘marriage’ promise to A-Rod.

At the time, the pop icon and baseball legend seemed secure in their relationship. Little did fans know that a couple of years later, the unthinkable would happen. Furthermore, that promise by Lopez was never fulfilled.

Between June and August 2019, Jennifer Lopez was engaged with her “It’s My Party Tour.” The pop icon slayed while performing and gave some top effort. But during one concert, Alex Rodriguez’ then-fiancee made a lifetime ‘marriage’ promise. After an exhausting performance, she said that she loved Rodriguez and that she’d marry him forever. A-Rod shared a video of behind-the-scenes footage from the tour a year later, and this moment surfaced. 

‘In the video, Lopez said, “I love him and I’m going to marry him. So whether he wants to or not, we’re getting married, we’re getting married forever and ever.” It was a promise to marry him and stay by his side forever. But little did she know that the relationship would not last.

The couple’s relationship struggled through the COVID pandemic and, in April 2021, they officially announced their split. It sent shockwaves through their respective fan bases. Although the wedding always seemed inevitable, JLo could not keep her promise to A-Rod. Both have moved on in their lives both personally and professionally.

Jennifer Lopez has married Ben Affleck. The two got back together shortly after her split from Alex Rodriguez. An engagement followed a few months later before JLo and Affleck exchanged vows.
