The ongoing 2023 MLB season has gotten off to a rough start for the New York Mets. Coming into the year, the Mets were considered a favorite to win the World Series. However, the results have not gone their way. Most recently, they were harshly criticized after losing a series in an embarrassing fashion.

Notably. the Buck Showalter-led Mets have struggled at times this season, with their pitchers and hitters both looking shaky. Justin Verlander finally returned for his debut after missing more than 30 games with an injury. The 2022 Cy Young winner had addressed his debut last month, looking eager to take the mound. But that also did not help them as they suffered an embarrassing series loss to the Detroit Tigers, and fans did not hesitate to express their frustration.

The Detroit Tigers swept the New York Mets in a 3-game series

Most recently, the New York Mets suffered an embarrassing series sweep against the Detroit Tigers, losing all three games. MLB content creator Marc Luino emphasized the series loss in a Tweet expressing his disappointment. Luino was left frustrated by the Mets’ poor play.

In a Tweet, he said, “Worst Mets series in a very long time. Losing once to the Detroit Tigers is bad, getting swept is unacceptable and embarrassing. The Mets shouldn’t be bad but they are sure playing like it”. This was a brutal assessment of the series.

The reactions to the Mets’ series loss have been negative as well.

Some fans harshly criticized the team for this result.

Other fans lamented the New York-based team’s bad form.

The Mets are on a 3-game losing streak and have won only 2 of their last 10 games. This is all despite the team having the MLB’s highest payroll. Furthermore, they won 101 games last season. Although results are sure to get better, Mets fans are disillusioned at the moment. 

The Mets are still World Series contenders!

Many experts still consider the Mets to be a World Series title contender. They believe that the New York-based team will recover from this poor start. Furthermore, as the season progresses, their injured players will return and bolster the squad. Even today, the Mets are among the 5 or 6 teams that can win the title, solely based on the amount of talent that they have.
