Where did Gerrit Cole’s journey begin?
The phenomenal pitcher’s journey began at his high school, where he first took the mound as a sophomore on the junior varsity baseball team. He had completely dominated the competition, pitching 45 innings without allowing a single run to cross the plate. His excellence in the ballpark drew the attention of scouts from across the country.
According to bleacherreport.com, it was 2008, and the young pitcher was offered a golden opportunity. The New York Yankees drafted him with the hopes of bringing him into their fold. But Cole had other plans. Despite the lure of playing for the Yankees, he turned down the offer and instead decided to attend UCLA.
