The Blue Jays are in first place in the AL East (80-59) and have a championship vibe that hasn’t been seen since 1993. With John Schneider harboring World Series ambitions, he has modelled his team in a similar manner, as he looks to take the throne from the LA Dodgers.

On August 31, the Blue Jays picked up the 30-year-old utility hitter off waivers from Pittsburgh. They added him as their right-hander, Yimi Garcia, was on the 60-Day IL, due to elbow surgery that ended his season. Isiah Kiner-Falefa is in the last year of a two-year, $15 million deal that he signed before the 2024 season. In 83 games in Toronto last year, he hit .292 with seven home runs and 33 RBIs. He has only hit .264 with one home run and 35 RBIs in 119 games this season with Pittsburgh.

Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet shared how far Kiner-Falefa is ready to go for his new squad. He wrote on his X, “Isiah Kiner-Falefa says he’s very grateful to Pittsburgh for his time there but that landing with the Blue Jays is ‘the best possible situation.” “He’s been told he’ll play a bench utility role and has offered to take reps at catcher, which he played in the minors with the Rangers.”

Toronto doesn’t really need another catcher right now, but Kiner-Falefa can play a lot of different positions on the infield, which offers Schneider options in case unforeseen injuries. He’ll probably be a utility player on the bench, ready to play SS, 3B, 2B, or possibly the outfield. With Daulton Varsho and Ernie Clement not well, the Blue Jays are looking for late-inning magic and IKF fits the bill perfectly. He is fast and can change positions, and has good glove work, which can make a big difference in close games.

IKF has been pretty open about playing wherever the team needs him to be. I’m willing to do whatever they need me to do for giving me this opportunity. I’m just excited to be here. I’ll be the best tenth man I can be. I take pride in that. I’m going to be doing everything I can to just provide energy, provide help. It’s the least I could do.”

In 2024, John Schneider made it clear: “We’re not a totally rebuilding team; we’re looking to build for next year and win next year.” Now that the playoffs and October loom, the Blue Jays have their sights set on toppling the Dodgers and clinch the title.

Leading this charge for the Blue Jays; is their enigmatic manager, John Schneider.

Schneider hits 282 wins, stands firm on bullpen—and eyes on World Series

This week, John Schneider quietly made his mark on Blue Jays history by winning his 282nd game as manager, which puts him in fourth place on the franchise’s all-time list. The achievement shows not only his time in office but also his steady hand, which has led Toronto into another September with October firmly in sight. Schneider’s steadiness is just as important as any bat or arm for a squad that hasn’t won a crown since 1993.

Schneider kept it real when people asked about the climb. He said, “It’s cool, honestly. You look at the guys who are lucky enough to have a job like this and guys who are ahead of you and who you may have passed … It comes down to being consistent. I think I’ve been lucky to have good teams, competitive teams that are in this window that we’re in right now.” He said that records aren’t what drives him, even though he reached a milestone. It’s about keeping the team fresh.

Schneider also admitted that he doesn’t keep an eye on personal records, instead the milestones his team achieves are more important to him. “Any accomplishment or accolade that I may get hits a little bit deeper for me because this is the only team I’ve known.” The Blue Jays have become a serious competitor this season and look primed to go all the way. Do you think John Schneider can lead this team their first World Series title since 1993? Or will the Dodgers prevail again? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
