Two teams from New York, at two opposite ends of the spectrum, and the disappearance of a New York-based World Series. Yes, that’s where the New York Yankees and New York Mets are currently standing. While the Pinstripes prepare for the American League Division Series, the Mets head back home (not literally, since they were playing at home) after getting knocked out of the MLB.

The last few weeks haven’t been the best for you if you’re a Mets fan. With a heartbreaking end to the regular season, followed by a disappointing wild card series display against the Padres, one would go out on a limb and say that the Mets’ didn’t deserve this after their 101 season victories. However, what unfolded is in front of us.

But, the New York Mets fans have something to take away from this 2022 season as they made the wrong side of history after losing to the Padres 1-2.

As reported by SportsTalkATL.com, the New York Mets became the “first team to win 100+ games and not reach the division series.” This moves to be a record no one would ever want against their name.

New York Mets and their unfortunate postseason history

The last time the Mets won the World Series was back in 1986. Since then, the Mets have made only seven postseason appearances, out of which, only two have translated into World Series appearances. This year, in 2022, the Mets successfully managed to break their 6-year playoff absence since 2016 and reached the Wild Card round.

This happening occurred after an unfortunate (for the Mets) last-minute turn of events in the National League’s West Division with the Atlanta Braves beating them by a marginal difference and qualifying for the Division Series.

As the Mets bid adieu to another potential World Series appearance, Steve Cohen will prepare to empty his pocket to cover this palpable gap.
